Greetings everyone,

haven't been on here much lately, been a long, long year... but I'd like to share some good news with you all.

I'm rejoicing as finally I can lay my KS out to pasture, for you see in my driveway since 2weeks ago there be a 2002 KJ MY02 wagon taking up residence, and I couldn't be more wrapped. $12.2k on road (dealer) incl 4x new Dunlops (spare is a "Douglas"???), 83,000kms in kashmir and she's a beaut. TIPTRONIC!!! ... (4sp)

Still does about 2000rpm at 100km/h which I suppose isn't too bad, the KS was at about 2300. Interesting to see how economy goes.

Unlike the KS where I did nothing in terms of mods, I've learnt a bit off here so there are a few things:
1) no window tint yet, so this will come first
2) rear speakers are a bit crap, worse than KS even, so I'll be replacing those
3) strangest looking wheels to ever come out of Tonsley Park may also get the flick
4) will also explore some power gains, donk's just so sweeeet!

Only problem is there's an IMMENSELY annoying rattle from the tailgate trim, I think some clips are loose/missing. Should be able to get that done under warranty.

I'll post up some pics shortly in the post your ride thread when I get around to it (that's get around to getting a dig camera - one in my nokia N70 has been dropped too often it seems).

One happy 3rd genner here! :D

Rattles may not be covered under 2nd hand warranty - good luck. Are you sure it's the tailgate ? My 2003 TL wagon had a rattle I was sure was from the tailgate, turned out to be from the rear seat strikers not being a good match for the seat. There is a write up on this site somewhere of similar problems, and the parts serial number for the replacement strikers that fixes it.
I still had 4 months manufacturers warranty when I bought it so I took it in. They fixed it alright... by putting black insulation tape over the strikers ! Good work Essendon Mitsubishi , you lost a customer for life over what would have been $60 to fix properly. Service after next was the timing belt one, so they missed out big time.
Fold the back seat down to lock, go for a drive and see if it's still making the noise.

I thought the tiptronic was just a gimmick till I took the car to Tassie - It was fantastic ! It all suddenly made sense in the windy stuff: doing 100kmh around a tight corner, dropping it down from 4th to 2nd with 2 quick flicks (and it doesn't even get close to redlining) , and having the wagon just tuck itself in nicely as I power out. That donk is a little slow to pick up but just loves the higher revs. Only problem was I ran out of brakes on one especially torturous section (+3 passengers, fully loaded...a little quick but hey, it was such fun ! The car just ate it up), but they cooled down ok and have been fine since. I reckon the hub caps don't allow enough airflow.

jesus, values have crashed huh? paid $25k for my '02 KJ year before

Rear sear can also rattle at the latches, load area MDF can also rattle or squeak.
When mucking around with tailgate trim be careful not to dislodge the washer piping
as it'll then leak and flood your speakers.
