Hi all,
Is there a crankcase breather on a 3.0L V6 TS? I've found the rocker cover breathers and PCV valve, but can't see the crank breather?
Cheers.

I thought thats what the PCV Was? Positive Crankcase Ventilation?

Yeah - I wondered that myself. Looking at earlier posts, it looks like the PCV valve inlet hose comes from the fwd rocker cover? Is that not the pcv valve? Am I missing something? I always thought cars had to have a breather directly from the crank case as well?
Anyone?

The PCV Valve is at the front with a hose coming from that to the outlet on the front rocker cover. Then there is a second breather hose on the back rocker cover with a hose running from the outlet to just beside where the Throttle Speed Sensor and Idle Speed motor are. Both these hoses can become blocked, which increases pressure inside the motor that might force oil from unusual places. Carburettor cleaner and long pipe cleaners or stiff wire will clear any blockages.

the isnt a crankcase breather as such like a lot of inline configuration motors have, but the equivelant is the rear bank rocker cover breather that goes tot he inlet just before the TB. this is equivelant to a crankcase breather in that there is no obstruction from the breather to the inlet (ie no PCV on the rear bank rocker breather)
i had an air/oil separator (catch can) on the car for a while to see how the car was going but didnt seem to have any positive crankcase pressure issues
i ran a line from each rocker cover to the can and a line from the can to inlet just beofre the TB (dont like the idea of venting oil vapour to atmosphere under the bonnet) and went to coventry fasteners for a screw in bung to replace the PCV in the inle tmanifold.

Thanks Lynel. Wonder why there is no breather directly from the crank case though - I've only worked on inline motors before? Is there a path for the crank pressure to get up into the rocker gear area and vent through the rear hose then?

The Crankcase pressure come's up through the oil return galley's in the block.into the rocker area where it goes through a maze under a plate that screws to the top of the rocker cover. then through the tube that protrudes from the cover.
I'm pretty sure that the maze under the cover reduces the amout of oil blow by and returns it back to the rocker area. THIS maze can become blocked aswell, causing oil to be pused past seals elsewhere. Not good!

Thanks trotty and everyone else. Understand now. Have to check out if that maze you're referring to is blocked, as have started to use quite a lot of oil all of a sudden. Breather hoses themselves are clear. Maybe I'll try blowing down the hoses into the rocker cover, and see how restrictive that feels - would give me a good indication on whether there is a blockage inside the rocker covers.

I dont think you will be able to blow down the hoses as the pcv is a 1way valve.:D

Yeah, I'll pull the hose off the PCV valve, and blow into the rocker cover.

i havent taken the rear bank rocker cover off yet but there is jsut the normal head gear under the front one (not suprising it is the one with the PCV) i remember when i had my greggory's manual i didnt remember seeing anything unsual on the diamgram of the heads and rocker covers, and the location of the breather pipe itself would limit any liquid oil from getting to the inlet, having said that though, there was anice black stain on the TB plate and housing leading from the rear-breather-to-inlet pipe.
my plan was to have a good old tinker on the Verada this holidays, but i smashed my ankle at work 2 weeks ago and im pretty laid up.
