ok i tried searching so if this has come up before i apologise!!!
what would be needed to take a 2.5 v6 diamante engine and fit it into a magna??
i understand the v3000 to 2,6 astron needs the left mount moved, but how far off is the diamante engine from either??
i know that id have to change the extractors and wire loom etc, but how do the gearboxes fair up etc,
ANY HELP APRECIATED! as long as its positive and not a smart **** comment, thanx

Mmmmm the 2.5L Quad cam....
May i ask why the 2.5L? I think it still puts out 140ish kw but the 3L's are going pretty cheap.
Honestly dont think its ever been asked!

Mate I'll say no, as it looks like the transaxle is passenger side mounted, which is the wrong side for 2nd Gens.
If you did want to do this, you're looking at very serious chassis modification.

The diamantes in NZ came with a 2L DOHC and 2.5L DOHC, orientated the same way?

I may've been wrong.
The Diamante pages in Wikipedia say that the First Generation Japanese Diamante (our 2nd Gen) was available in 2.5L, ie the 6G73 engine.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Diamante
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_6G7_engine
Looks like a fairly kitted out car for it's time, ABS, electric seats, TCL, leather.

and also the 2L
"It comes with a 2.0 Litre 6G71 SOHC 24 valve V6 engine outputting 91 kW "
was a SOHC it says.... weird...
With the trannys lining up though you'd need to find one first i reckont to find out

a DOHC 6g72 would be cheaper and make more torque and power. 165kW. 3rd; 60---> 1** is awesome
It becomes a bit of a hassle legally to change the mount using the 4cyl unless you know what you're doing.

well the reason was, a: more likely to find a alright diamnte engine than a v3000 or magna, as i think that for the most part, NZ magnas are getting old and crappy, lol!
b: cost, again above reasons
c: just for the kicks of having a v6 lol, and a 2.5l shouldnt chew through as much as the v3000s, well, by my guestimation anyway. it probably wont end up happening, but i thought that id throw it out there as a possibility. what might end up being the easiest option is a front chop of loom, engine etc etc.
i looked at those wiki pages, i think that a 4g73 would work nicely, sounds pretty good anyway, and it also reckons that the magnas etc were based on diamantes. hmmm he ponders, "could this work yet?!"
lol, looks like im going to have to go take a look round pick a part and maybe measure up the engine bays and mounts, just to see if it would fit. this may become more interesting than first anticipated!
i might also talk to my flattie, hes a qualified mechanic, and a mitsi fan, if i could get him on board for a project(a box) it could be alright haha
i go those "new project" shivers, lol
thanks for the help, nice to know your the first one to try summing, lol

RWD? Hmm... not impossible but would take work, one American version came in AWD. Not sure if the NZ chasis come with the room for a rear diff or not? Someone clarify?
