I have the KS Verada with the door speakers and dash speakers but wish to dispose of the dash speakers. I want to use the standard KS Verada tweeters (keep it looking stock with a decent mid / bass in the doors as I want clarity up the front as that will be the main sound stage. Is there any sort of crossover between the dash and door speakers or are they seperate setups.
The KS has a plastic pod that the speakers screw into in the door and am told they are 5", is this correct. I was told I could put either 6 or 6.5" in there but how do you mount them, do you need MDF spacers or can you just remove the plastic pod and use the holes the plastic pod were screwed into.
I was going to use either 6x9s or 6" coaxials in the parcel shelf for fill and a 10" JBL sub (amplified of course) in the boot as bas is omni directioal.

RE: the door speaker sizes, I have 6.5's in there, I used the plastic pod but had to cut away a bit of the back to fit the magnet. Otherwise no hassles.
(I've got photos somewhere, think they must be on my laptop, can find them if you need them)

Mate, that would be great, with the plastic pods how did you go screwing them into the front and what about the plastic frame behind the metal grille.

Mate to get some nice speakers definitely get some splits, you said you want to keep the stock look, but you can fit any tweeter behind those tweeter grilles, there is a heap of room. You will not get a nice sound trying to use stock tweeteres and other woofers. Get a complete component set with the speakers and crossovers made to work with each other. Mount the crossovers under the dash somewhere and it will be an invisible set up.
Thats how I like mine too, got that at the front, the two amps hidden under the front seats, with just the sub at the back, but hidden by the cargo blind coz its a wagon.

Plastic pods just screwed in the way they were. For those that don't have them stock, make sure you also get the white squares of plastic that plug into the four holes, can't screw them in otherwise.
I originally didn't do anything to the covers or mesh, but got worried that part of the plastic may have been pushing on the speaker rim, so cut back the ring of plastic on the back of the covers a bit.
Keep in mind that mine are definitely not designed to be anything special in the audio department; they do the job fine for what I wanted, but real audiophiles could probably find 100 things wrong with the way they are installed.

Thanks for that, given the original pods only held 5" speakers you would've had to cut away a little bit of the front of the pods to take the larger diameter speakers, I know you had to cut away a little of the back to cater for the magnet depth.
What about the dash speakers, did you disconnect them and if you did how did you do that.

Michael again, just curious how you find the high end frequencies with the tweeters down low. The reason I ask is I only use the car on the weekends but still want to improve the sound from the standard speakers.
I have a 4x50W JVC H/U installed at the moment (I know head units pump out a lot less then what they're rated at) with the standard 4" dash, 5" door and 6" rear.
I have a 10" JBL sub still in the cardboard box yet to get an enclosure so given I only use the car over the weekends I don't want to spend to much so this is what I was looking at.
Jaycar coaxials front and rear off H/U and sub off a 2x either 50W or 100W amp.
I know I won't get the best quality but if I'm using the car only on weekends I can't see the point in spending big dollars.
Cheers

These particular speakers only required the rear of plastic pod to be cut to accomodate the magnet, the front still fitted; I get the impression there must be some spare room around the stock speakers. Dunno, I retrofitted mine, so never actually had the original speakers that went with them.
Mainly used these for a bit of bass up front, still have the original stock 4" dash speakers  . So dash for high, door for low/mid. Actually need to do some tweaking, both sets are running straight off the "front" speaker line, both are about the same volume, but due to positioning the door ones are a fair bit quieter; I need to mess with some potentiometers to try to get a good balance between them, then probably just hard-wire an approximate set of resistors.
If you are wondering, I have 6x9's in the cargo area, running (obviously) off the "rear" channel.
One day I might get around to adding a cheapie sub.

There is no crossover on the stock speakers. I installed pioneer splits and ran them off the head unit and they were barely better than the stock ones. My stock tweeters were falling apart so i scraped out the cardboard cone and mounted my pioneer tweeters in the pod. The 6.5in woofer went in with no modding or cutting and i sealed the small gap with silicone. The crossover i screwed above the speaker onto the door. I ran them and some 6x9 alpines off my 50x4 alpine deck. The stock speakers are very good i found ( i had the xi if that was different in sound) and before my pioneer splits i ran the stock woofers with different tweeters for ages and it sounded great. You can also mount the tweeters in the small plastic piller in the front window very 3rd gen like then :)
