Hi everyone. Just pulled the wife's old TP apart (I say old, but it's only done 168000 km), and repaired a small pin hole in the timing chain cover where the water pump used to be - you know the one. I filled the very thin front wall of the cavity with liquid steel so that its know just as thick as the rest of the wall. By the way, thanks for all the info on this forum, when I saw coolant flowing freely from somewhere behind the engine mount, I thought o-oh, the block's cracked, she's cooked it, not worth fixing. Then I found this site, and found out its a common problem. Anyway, in the process i had to dismantle half the engine, and decide that might as well also replace the vlave stem seals (its starting to smoke on stop and starts).
So here's my question. Can anyone tell me a spare parts supplier that will have gaskets for sump, timing cover, etc, valve stem seals, cam shaft seal, etc, etc, for a '89 TP magna in Geelong Victoria, at a good price. Maybe someone can save me a bit of time shopping around, or getting ripped off. I could also go to Melbourne, if I knew I would get a good deal. Thanks for any suggestions and advice.

Do you have a Repco branch there? They are not cheap on some things but for gaskets and seals they are OK. Well, I bought mine there and Stingy is my middle name. About $30 for the valve stem seals and $12 or $15 for rocker cover gasket. It has been a while since I bought a sump gasket but they are not expensive.

At least they have the stock or can get it for you. Supercheap might have them too.

i was going to do the stem seals in my TN, but got rid of the car before i did it.

So you can have my Rocker cover gasket and the 8 steam seals if you like. You'd have to pick them up though, in Altona north (drive towards the wesgate bridge, its just before there)

Mate, have every thing yo need here from the many rebuilds I have done, 25 bucks for everything you need and if you need (stem seals, rocker cover gasket, cam seal, half moon seal, timing cover gaskets, oil pump gasket) only I do not have the sump gasket. I am assuming you have done the right thing and left the head on :)

SUmp gasket is no issue, can get them from most places, for all the eastern memebrs remember Pistons Autos in Bayswater gives club discounts for all members needing parts and I have made sure that they stock plently of first, second and third gen parts.

Sorry didn't reply back to you all quickly, been away over the holidays, back to work today. Thanks for your suggestions and offers everyone. Ended up going with Magna buff's suggestion - thought I'd better also change the timing chains while I got it all apart. The existing chains are okay, but only a couple mm of adjustment left. They threw in a sump gasket for 9 bucks, and charged only 12 bucks delivery for the lot -too easy. Thanks again.

Hi everyone. Finally got around to replacing the stem seals (finished at 1 this morning), tomorrow will start putting it all back together (first the timing chains). The VRS kit I bought on ebay (thanks to magna buff), it included 4 o-rings about 10 mm diameter, 1 o-ring about 25 mm diameter, and 1 larger o-ring about 38-40 mm diameter. Can someone tell me what these 6 o-rings are for?

one of the round 0 rings is for the dissy shaft into the head

you fit the inner one as there isnt a second the same size

some of the kit also suits carby motors 2.6
4 smaller 0 rings not needed
largest 0 ring not needed

carby gaskets discarded when you have the EFI

OK, thanks for that magna buff, the kit did come with alot of gaskets i don't need. But the buggers didn't include a gasket for the oil pump in the timing chain kit. Well, it did have a gasket that may fit another oil pump, but its nothing like the pump in my 1990 TP. I had to remove the oil pump, to unscrew the bolt on the balance shaft, because the balance shaft chain is wedged behind the bolt. Is that typical? I suppose I couild have cut the old original balance chain to get it off (it had no join, the new chain's got a joining link). But removing the oil pump seemed easier, and it needed an inspection anyway.
