View Full Version : What type of LPG system was fitted to 2006 380 ES with no power loss?

I've seen a few 2006 ES 380's at the govt. auctions which are fitted with LPG Dual fuel.

I've read on the internet that the factory system has no power loss (ie the engine still produces 175kw and drives the same as the petrol model.)

Are these LPG systems which I am assuming are factory fitted of the LPG vapour injection type? I would very much doubt that Mitsubishi would fit a venturi system to their cars like the E-Gas Ba falcons which are as gutless as buggery.

The other scenario could be that these particular ex-Government dept. 380's which I saw were retro fitted when purchased and therefore could be some after market typre venturi crap system. They were selling for about $16,800 with about 70,000 km's on the clock, almost the same price as the petrol only ES 380's at the same auction, I would have thought that if they were vapour injection rather than single point venturi they would have been selling for at least $2000 or so more.

might get a better response if you post the same question in the 380 forum.

3rd gen'rs will only know whats appicable for the 3/3.5L magnas....

I think for emission reasons you have to run an injected system. They are more expensive but the power loss is minimal if not at all. PM Wrexed03. He just fitted an injected set up on his Pajero and has a good knowledge of LPG systems. But, i think you wont get much change out of $4500 for an injected system...

I had some ball park qoutes of around 3600 for the Impco Sequential vapour injection system, (MMAL approved) but wether the auction 38's had em, I don't know. A call to MMAL with the VIN could tell you about Factory Fitted units.
If you get it done, make sure the guys have a computer exhaust analysis device, for optimal tuning. Impco knows who has them and not all of them do.

Cars that are on LPG produce no bad emissions, I think it's more to do with the car having all it's electronic crap on it. A manual 380 on injected gas would be the ideal base car for modifying I think, no cat converters needed, multiple o2 sensors not needed.

When i was sussing out gas systems for the 380 they told me i had to run a Euro 3 compliant system and the only ones that you can use are injected systems.

Sorry guys:redface: it should have been in the 380 forum rather than the Magna forums, I'm not sure how to move it though, or even if it can be moved.

On topic I have heard that all cars MY04 onwards have to meet emission requirements which only lpg injection meets so I reckon the 380's at the auctions which are dual fuel would more than likely be multi point LPG rather than the single point venturi type. If so 16-17K is a good buy for an 06 model ES 380 with LPG injection with no power loss. I am still surprised that they don't appear to have gone for much more than the petrol only models.

Odds on the 380 lpg systems would be injected. As mentioned they need to meet euro emissions. Some injected systems dont meet the most current euro emissions so you have to put the right setup on if you dont have it or thinking about it. If its the later they will utilize o2 sensors plus others etc etc to remain compliant.
The installer should be able to tell you what needs to go on it. If they put something else that does not meet the emissions im sure they would find themselves in trouble.
If its factory fitted you should be right.
In regards to power the injected system on mine makes more on gas than petrol, throttle response has improved dramatically over petrol and mid range too.

UPDATE::nuts: I have read that Mitsubishi did not release the 380 with the factory LPG dual fuel until 2007 but the models I saw at the auctions were series 2 ES MYFeb 06??? Perhaps they were available to fleet/Government buyers before the general public?
