Yer I know this is in the Post Your Ride section, but I want to get a general Idea of what people think of my car and what I should do to it. I want some cheap, easy to do mods, and some harder, more expensive mods for later. I've decided not to sell it until it gets a bit further down the track, after all mum gave me this car and I want to keep it for a while. Unless some one wants to buy it, looking for around $1000-1600
So anyway, Check it.

You can sorta see theres not much power in it, Blows alot of smoke when I put my foot down. How do I fix this?
Also, how do I fix the little rust spots that are appearing? and there is a rust bubble on the back passenger door I don't know how to get rid of. No mods or installs of ANY kind done to it (except lame as5 clip on Neon pedals
Neons (http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh135/robbieins2/Photo0210.jpg)).
the back bumper and from bumper are sagging on the corners how do I fix?
Car makes a clicking sound when I turn. maybe CV's?
Theres so much I want to do to it but I need to get a RWC and rego 1st. Cant do that till I'm 17. like 18 more days! cant wait.
Im pisses about the RWC though. Cut a long story short, mum's cancer put her in a wheel chair so she said I could have the car. Then when she passed not long after she didnt leave it to me in her will. So now I need to go to the Courts to get a letter saying that its mine. THEN get it in working order. THEN put some nice mods on it. I've only got about $9000 next year to spend (Y12 Salary) and I want it to look really nice by the end of it, but have enough left over to start saving for a house (something I will definatly make money from) so Im really looking for people to help me with ideas and cheap stuff if it can be spared. I have a list of what I want to do but I would really like some people to give me some ideas. Maybe show their 1st gens off.
Thanks everyone for helping me out. when I can drive it ( soon) I wanna make some Vic meets. That would be mad as. Anyways, what you can do to help is so muchly appreciated!
dude none of your pictures work.

O thats a massive difference. I called up a few places today and only one of em answered (4got it was a sunday!)
the basterd laffed at me for asking for extractors for the TP, saying "haha mate you cant make that thing go any faster!" Grr that makes me wanna fix it up better than ANY VL turbo and FACE him!
Yer I will definatly look into them because I think I've got a tiny crack running through my exhaust manifold. will be better with them anyway so yer. thanks. did you paint them or leave them stock? Um, is there only the 1 style of extractors? just the old ones? or can you get newish ones that are a bit better maybe? or lighter? dunno.
thanks dude

about the extractors mine are like silver (unpainted) and im not to sure about the "styles" as far as i know theres only the 1.. but i dnt know. and mines a carby manual and yours is a efi auto right? so they mightnt get the same improvment. i can send you the vid if you want it. its not exactly 11 sec

Yeah if you were doing it in 17 seconds there was something else wrong with your car other then just having a standard exhaust.

ok its just ive seen the extractors the same color as the exhaust manifold, black and now ur saying silver. wasnt sure if they were different or just painted. I'd love the Vid post it here or email or something.
yes ive got the EFI auto. would you think yours would get the better improvement? Maybe join this mod with a K&N oval filter placed in the original air filter box thing (ive seen it before on these forums i think Neo's wagon?) and that sounds like it would humm.

I would FIRST give it a really good service
Timing chain, leads, belts, coolant, oil, K&N filter, leads, dizzy cap, bleed all the brakes etc.
The i would get some extractors for it and a high flow TB as well as a full exhaust system

distributor cap, all your leads plug into it....worth changing it.
high flow TB - A smoothed out throttle body which helps the air coming in travel with less restriction.
New brake rotors? i guess if your old ones are cactus yeah...
Sorry to hear about your mothers passing..
i would keep this car for a LONG time and make it a stunner. she would be proud of ya :)

Um, this gunna sound totally n00b but, um, whats the throttle body? where is it and what it look like? I will probly know what it is just its late and I CBF thinking too hard... or i just dont know:redface:

Probably this here.
If you have no clue on cars i find the best way to learn is
1) try and do things yourself under the supervision of someone who knows what they are doing
2) go to the wreckers and inspect how things work, and come apart, like TB's, exhaust manifolds, brakes etc, good way to just learn and if you screw up who cares.
Start with the basics like oil changes and stuff...

Thanks mate thats ok. Was a bit harsh but yer...
Um, Thats what I want to do but its sorta hard when people telling me to sell it. I think the most convincing thing I heard to make me want to sell was
"If your mum could have brought a better car, do you think she would have got this?"
I still want to go all out on it though. Just need to work on the funds. I dont get paid until just before my Birthday and hopefully get some birthday money so I can get a service, RWC, Reg and go from there. Lets cross our fingers and hope ey? I want this to be a hot car lol.
Good idea about going to the wreckers and just playing around. Something to do on my hols ey.

did that work cause there front wheel drives.
try pulling the handbreak up put on break slam acc down till revs build up then quickly take foot off break. should spin

24-12-2007, 06:49 AM
yer my idea worked but not as well as I hoped. I got vids on me doing burnouts i'll put em up ey?
my handbreak is sh#t needs tightening. does the handbrake lock rear or front tyres?
I will try your idea when I get back going to cousins house 2nite so I mite not be on. thanks
thebeast.
24-12-2007, 06:57 AM
locks the rear wheels. tightening the hand break is a real easy and fast job. yeah may as wel post the vids
robbieins2
24-12-2007, 06:57 AM
o yer, btw. is this safe to do to the car? cause the way I do it im scared a piston is gunna shoot out or the wheels fall off or something. tats why im not putting foot down too hard I dont wan2 cause more damage than enough u kno? When I get my engine mods man im not gunna need to hold breaks just when I put my foot down their gunna spin off the mark! I was talkin it over with my G/F last nite and yer Im gunna put some serious $$$ into this car. Im looking in about 2-3 months time have the extractors, new timing chin etc like tufftr said, full exhaust mandrel piping or whatever people here recommend. then hopefully new air intake (maybe something custom? getting good ideas from people here) and then see what happens after that. Im budgeting on getting $348 per fortnite to spend on the car. Should be enough to have a beat by the end of the year ey?
letz see what happens

How do I tighten the handbrake?
thebeast.
24-12-2007, 07:14 AM
take the plastic "console" off around the handbreak, get a shifter and kist tighern the only thing there is to tighten. sorry i cant b spicific. you'll know what im talking about as soon as u take the cover off
robbieins2
24-12-2007, 07:17 AM
yer i know exactly what your talking bout ive been taking console on and off just mucking round so i know what you mean. at the bottom of the handbrake there are two bolts that join a bit of metal that have two cables running down. Will go do it now.

Yeh dont listen to jerks like that for all he knows you might have wanted extractors for a better sounding note. Anyway just do what you want with the car as long as you dont keep doing those burnouts with an auto g/box wont be good 4 it at all.

Its that tapping like sound coming from your motor. The timing chain is old and loose and needs replacing with a new one. Not an easy fix for a beginner. Happens with First Gens because there chain driven not belt driven.

aahhh makes sense. I dont think I should be messing round with it too much... actually just got it started again today after no fuel, flat tyre and flat battery. makes a funny clunking sound when I drive it... im not sure if its the CV's cause they wernt that bad before.

Im not sure why the CV's would all of a sudden just start clunking could be anything. If you live near the SE suburbs of Melbourne, Mal (Madmagna) will be the one to see when your ready, he will sort out whats going on with it. Give him a PM and ask him about it.

That noise sounds more likely to be your tappets. If it was the chain it would be more like a rattle sound.
