Hey all,

It’s been some time since this has happened, and making a thread about it has been a low priority. However i’ve got most things sorted so it’s time to let everyone know what happened, despite the fact thinking about it makes me feel awful. Also, i will be posting this on 1-2 forums... so sorry if this is a repost.

On the 7th of November at around midnight, I wrote off my magna. I rolled it taking a corner. The car landed on the roof with a guard rail entering the windscreen and exiting out the passenger door. The 2 other people and myself walked away from it unharmed – just a few bruises and cuts, and one of us needed stitches.

The car got towed back to my place and I managed to salvage a lot out of it. What i’m most disappointed about is the amount of money, time and effort put into this car for it to end all in about 10 or so seconds.

The car, even though it was automatic, could shred 17 inch tyres, and even snap a few CV joints. Would give most other cars on the road a go. 0-100km/h time was under 9 seconds. I had plans to work the motor more and convert to a manual.

The car was practically brand new and was a beast. Anyone who went for a ride in it, will vouch this would have to have been one of the fastest and nicest gen1’s out there (with the exception of fossel). Though the police and TransportSA had a different opinion about it when it got defected for petty stuff like missing bumper bar clips. They just couldn’t fault the car for anything else as everything was perfect.

Reconditioned transmission, reconditioned engine, extractors & exhaust, falcon Weber, removal of balance shafts, cam, reconditioned brake callipers & master cylinder, new wheel bearings, new rotors, new struts and springs, new suspension bushes & ball joints, climate control, power windows, digital dash, cut and weld over rust, new paint, 17” mags, Bluetooth headunit, couple of amps, subs, power steering, elante kit, replacement doors without rust are just some of the things that I did to the car.

The car went from a $900 maroon leaded TM SE, with rust and faded paint to a black beast that had easy $7000-$8000 worth of money spent on it – that resembled a TN elante without the spoiler.

A big thanks goes out to a few certain people. The car wouldn’t have existed without these people as i couldn’t have done all the work without them.

Adam (Mad Lante) & Tim (Fulysig) – all those late nights staying up taking out my engine or doing other stuff to the car. We always ended up at villis at 4-5am for a meal. Everything that could come apart and/or get replaced – did get replaced thanks to these guys.

Dad – i know you’re not going to read this forum, and i would probably never tell this to you in person – but thanks for running around getting parts for me, helping me whenever you could, and of course buying me the car in the beginning. No matter what happened to that car, you’d make sure it was all good to go.

Grandpa – your skills and help have meant a lot to me. I certainly couldn’t have repainted my whole car without them. One of my motivations to do up this car was to learn as much as I could from you. All the tools you’ve given me have helped so much.

Grant & Mike – small mention, but you help out one time or another with various things.

Tony – I know it’s not a commodore and just a ****ty magna, lol but thanks for helping me get off defect.

Fossel & dan (Astron Boy) – you guys motivated me to wack that weber on my car. Haha.

Josh (neo) – thanks for helping out. I know ya didn’t get to do much or see much of the work get done as I had done most before you came onto the scene, but thanks anyways.

Luke (Lucifer) - Thanks for your help mate... what you did for me was the best thing anyone could have done for me at a time like this.

Anyways, i leave you with photos of the car. i never got any photos of the car dumped on the 17's. but maybe i'll do a chop of it instead. As for new projects – who knows... my new car could sure do with a turbo (imagine a sleeper 4g63t powered Hyundai sonata lol), or if i don’t sell the motor, i might drop it back into a magna. But we’ll see how it all turns out.

RIP Jet Black ‘85 TM SE – the Weber powered beast.

Ahh damnit mate, so sorry to see/read that... I know how depressing it is after what happened to me earlier this year... I hope you can move on to bigger and better things... I actually seem to recall it might have been you who put a post up in another forum back in the beginning of 2004 with a link to this club... I clicked the link and never went back.

I keep reminding myself as should you, that as bad as it is losing something you worked so hard at the most important thing is that your family and friends didn't lose you... and that you didn't lose your friends... always look on the brighter side...

I have started modding my new beast... miss the Magna of course but heck the passion never dies.

All the best.

wow, thats totally destroyed!!

Only got to see it once at the underground cruise where i had my gt magna... it was clear you really enjoyed your car which i bet makes it much worse when it gets taken away! But on the bright side, everyones ok... which kind of suggests theyre not really a tin can?? Guess it depends on the circumstances!

Whats happened with it now? Do you own it/insurance/locked in police pound for ages? Did you enjoy it enough to fiddle with another? Anyway, atleast you lost it in spectacular fashion and it wasnt lost by being stolen or torched or something (thats my opinion anyway)... Hope there isnt too many "infringments" to follow?

Mate that's a serious wreck!
Sad to see your car looking like that
But good to see your still around to type in the story.

I showed my son the pics. Good to show a learner driver how a car that is someone's pride and joy can be changed so quickly and show him what wrecks look like.
Thanks for sharing the history & final pics with us. :)

Mate, do not know if I met you while I was in Adelaide, but sorry for the loss of your car, main thing is that you were not hurt, cars can be replaced, people can not.

Andrewd In so for as being a tin can, you do not know how fast he was going or what he hit or any of the details really, for your info, when the first gen was built and released, it was one of the safest cars on the road to be in an accident in. As was the second gen. Please do not flame a car when you clearly do not know. Oh and yes the roof bent, big deal, would you rather that shock wave do through the driver and pass instead? And as for the VN, I ahve seen them bend roof's by simply towing them on a front lift tow truck. VN = Very Nasty -- Holden Hope Our Luck Does Not End Now not much more can be said really :D

Really sad to see another first gen off the road :(

Important thing is though, that you and your friends are all OK. Could have been much worse! I think the fact that all of you escaped with minor injuries is a testament to the first gen strength - especially when you physically look at the car and the damage that was done to it! Many modern day (especially small) cars I can't see protecting the occupants nearly as well as what a ~20 year old magna could!

All you can do now is really just move on. A big loss, but not an ending. You have a Hyundai now, which is I guess essentially a Mitsubishi anyway... might be able to build it up to be as nice or nicer than the old Magna! Then you can say you will be in one of the very rare non-rice modded Hyundai's! :D

Mate, first of all very sorry to see it and read about it. But let me say thank god no one got hurt. I know it sucks right now. A car you've cared for and loved so much turned into nothing but scrap in a mere few seconds. I had a similar incident with myself (well publicised in the 3rd gen forums) but I fixed mine as a symbol of being able to rebuild (nevertheless I can imagine how you felt after the accident).

All I can say is please turn this negative into a positive in your life now moving forward. Learn to drive safe, be thankful for having your health, and not having your mates hurt either which would be a terrible thing to live with also.

All in all, in the whole scheme of things, you WILL look back one year from now with a sense of nostalgia and hopefully you have moved on. I think this just shows how a moment's mistake can really ruin people's life, except in this case (LUCKILY) it has not meant someone's life or their well being and health. So many things could have gone wrong that did not, which I am glad to see.

Anyway I should shut up now  I'm sure you will use this as a lesson going forward in life and live each day more thankful and respectful to everyone and everything.

A wise man once said: As long as you have health, you have hope, and as long as you have hope you have everything.

Peace.

All i can say is luck was on your side, that is shear luck not the build qulity....
The barrier has gone right through the windscreen, no car can handle that.
Great to see you are ok. And ur mates.

On the mates topic my brothers in queensland @ the moment visiting his mate that was being driven by a dick and rolled. Had no seatbelt on but apparently thats what saved him as that side of the car was totalled. Saved but a quadraplegic (i think thats how you spell it)
in hospital. Some good news is that he has moved his arm..... Its just time as to see how much movement he regains. Sorry to dump.:doubt:
