Hey guys,
bought a manual TP wagon a few days ago..
got an oil leak and smokes a bit..
the guy i bought it off mentioned something about the timing chain going through the case?
i've got no idea about engines or any of that stuff, hope to learn a bit.
body is straight as and interior is immaculate, just needs a bit of a general clean and vacuum..

i've got some money to do a bit of work to her so let me know what i can do..

cheers guys heres some pictures.
dylan.

First of all mate, welcome to the club.

What area are you in, I may be able to pop over and have a gander for you, I do a lot of work on members cars here.

Looks like a generally tidy car, bit of work will make it a ripper for you

Is it your first car?

Thanks bud, yeah it is my first car.
got a year or so of it being in the garage so i can put a heap of time into it.
Im in SE suburbs of Melbourne.
I want to beef up the engine (maybe drop a reco'ed one into it), new stereo, wheels and lower it.. if that all sounds feasible..
Theres just something about the first gens that i really like..

Nice buy, for the interior condition. Motor looks cleaner than what I've seen, but that doesnt tell you how well it runs.

Get Madmagna to have a look at the timing chain situation if you can. As the car runs, they guy was prolly saying that the timing chain needs doing soon or it will go through the timing case.

Brings back momeries of what my interior looked like when it was stock. Look after it and service it well once you have it in good condition, helps to keep things running nicely and she'll pay you back like mine has by not breaking down once in 2 years. :P

And welcome to the club mate, you'll soon learn all abouts engines and cars etc. :)

Ah ok, yeah the pics don't do the interior justice..
just the flash on my dslr is too powerful :D

My best mate knows a fair bit about engines and the like.. so ill get him to give me a hand.
Should be fun never the less.

forgot to add its got 220 on the clock and its a 1990..

By the way car looks great I hope you get to enjoy it in the years to come. Also you would be Mad not to get Mal (Madmagna) to look at it. Mal is working on mine at the moment and he knows a ****load about Magna's so give him a PM and let him know if your interested :)

This is directed to all those who do not like the First Gen Magna.

There are other topics such as second gen, third gen etc or other forums you can go to for that matter.

If I see any more negative comments directed to any member in this section, their car or their like of the first gen magnas, you will be perm banned, no warnings, excuses etc.

Please read this twice if you need to, it is not negotiable

To those here who are working together and getting some more fine examples of the car that was the very beginning of the cars a lot of us now drive, good on you for daring to be a little different and liking these older cars. Best of luck with your mods, your cars. Please feel free to report to me any negative comments and I will take of the offenders

Sfa (seriously, and I'm not knocking them). I have one too, but resale value is next to nothing. If unreg. and not running, say $100 to $500 depending on condition. Unreg and running well, $300 to $800. Running well and with plenty of rego. $800 to $1,500. Maybe $2,000 or $2,500 if really exceptional.

That is for private sale. Dealers are unlikely to offer more than $500 unless you're trading on something more expensive. GIO has the insured value on mine at $1,800 but I reckon I'd be lucky to get $800. It is not as immaculate as others here but runs flawlessly.

In NSW, dealers asking price when selling is generally $1,500 to $2,990 in good condition but that is only their asking price. You can almost always get $500 to $1,000 off for cash.

Prices in Vic seem to be about the same, South Aust. a bit higher.

What are you waiting for? A manual conversion is only a trip to the wreckers away.

Hmmm, there's a little bit more than that. I would suggest getting a second cheap manual car to transplant from, that way you know the box works etc (from a test drive).

And also theres some chassis work that needs doing.
