View Full Version : SOUND DEADEN YOUR DOORS!!!!
Asylum

i just finished... covered all surfaces of metal (inner skin, and both sides of frame) the difference is MUCH higher than anticipated... the doors close themselves basically, they are that heavy.... the sound of knocking the metal compared to the rear doors is extremely dofter... they dont resonate AT ALL.... makes the whole system much punchier, not to mention there is less road noise, the exhaust drone has quietened down HEAPS!
well worth doing asap. i reccomend it to all! :-D

it was just no-name bitumen based aluminum strips... the same as most of the stuff they sell on the shelves... i just got it VERY cheap and managed to cover most of the internal structure of the door... probably would be expensive to do using the car audio stuff.. but its definately worth it

it wasnt Flashtac was it?
Flashtac is used fairly often instead of the expensive sound deading that car audio places sell. its very cheap and can be bought at places like bunnings and such. Also vouch for it working very well, prehaps not as good as the really expensive stuff but for $30 a roll its well worth the money.

i'm not really sure of the name of the stuff, it was just on white backing paper, nothing written on it...
sorry no pics, i slapped it together this morning.. just a quick job didn't think of taking any, i guessed most people would know what it would look like....

Yeah flashtac is a good alternative.
My dad has a tin of brushable bitumen in the garage...lol..maybe I should slap that on! hahahah It's the orange tin of Ormonoid stuff.
hmm prolly not a good idea ;) hahah
Just in case anyone wants to see what the sound deadening looks like... (http://www.fastfoursforumscarclub.com/temp/fhrxstudios/photogallery_int.asp#interest4) :D

Do you get much in a flashtac roll? How far could you go with it?

William -- Is this the same stuff you did in your boot?
Blake - Good question, is there a website with a link to this product anywhere saying how many square metres it will cover etc?

If you can get a reasonable distance with a roll id consider tripping my new aterea down to nothing and go right through it.
I like the car to be loud on the outside but quiet on the inside so i can at least hear my music. Nothing shits me more than exhaust drone!

you'll probably put on extra 20kg in weight. but that's okay isn't it, just don't fill it to 70L, 50L will last you just as long.

Either paint or building supplies, where the aluminium flashing, ant capping etc would be.

Guy's I've fully deadened both my front doors and my boot. Don't bother with flashtac you aren't saving huge ammounts and it's only half as dense as any decent deadener. Believe me if you do this properly it takes ages so you may as well use the proper materials! I used wax/grease remover to clean all the panels. Then deadened the outer skin of the door using serenity max sound deadening matting/ I then sealed the service holes in the door with mdf templates and deadened all over them and the inner skin with the serenity max again. Following that I painted gspot sound deadening paint all over the door trim and ended up with very dead doors. Midbass improved greatly but whether it was worth the time and effort is debatable seeing as everything else in the bloody car rattles now!

but Slayer how much did that cost to sound deaden your door?
ive done a mates doors with brown bread and then another mates with flashtac and they both produced pretty similar result when properly done. Using the flashtac and then spray it cost a total of $80 for both front doors. using brown bread and then sprayed over it cost just over $200.

ahah but thats exactly it flashtac is going to produce similar results to brownbread because they are the exact same density this is where flashtac wins out however dynamat and serenity have double the density hense better results I bought all the stuff from webaudiodirect (store run but caraudioaustralia) site seems to be down atm though :( from memory I probably spent around $200 on materials
http://www.gspotperformance.com/web/ linky to the gspot and serenity max
We now handle most online G-Spot sales. :)
