ok i have heard from a few people that every so often they put like 1-2 letres on metho in the fuel tank to evaporate the water etc. is this a safe or stupid idea?

so it is safe? does anybody do it?

where do we put it in?

I think metho is water soluble, hense when you put it inur tank it absorbs the water and the metho is absorbed by the fuel and then burnt by ur motor...

In the ignition:nuts: :bowrofl:

whats funny? that a 16 Year old is trying to learn something?
safe
it is the old fashoned way of evaporating water
from the fuel and also stops the tank rusting
add metholated spirits through the fuel filler tube = take the cap off
escapes via fuel cap or motor fuel
better and safer than draining all the fuel out of a tank
you can even clean out the fuel filter with metholated spirits
chemistry lesson needed
a glass -some water - add metho - it evaporates
I wasnt sure where the "fuel filler tube" is,
try being less of a smartass just because some one doesnt know something you might.

I think he may be referring to the fuel cap... and the tube behind it. :)

U asked where it went, but had answered the question already?????
sorry but a little humour for myself.....

Sorry but he shouldn't be behind the wheel if he doesn't know where the fuel goes in...

yer I know but the way magnabuff said it I wasnt sure if he was talking about something different or not. dont even worry about it man

All good,:D

Another advantage is the dissolved water (in the metho) helps burn off carbon in the cylinders and also helps stop pinging.
We old guys learnt all these tricks maintaining cars in the 1950's.

You can actually set up a water injection sytem that drops inlet temps, reduces pinking andkeeps the engine clean from carbon deposits.
Not relly noticeable for power increase as such but just think about the composition of water....H2O. 2parts hydrogen(combustable) & Oxygen (fuel for combustion)
Can only be a good thing when done right.:D

metho can be a good way to cheaply remove moisture from the fuel system, the water will disolve into the metho and will in most cases get past the fuel filter and be then burnt.
The best way is someting like the Wynns fuel system cleaner, although it is NOT injector clean in a bottle it is excellent for a proper fuel system clean and the resulted mix is combustionable thus will burn off completely and not sit in the fuel filter.

thanks guys. think ill put a leter or 2 in tonight
so how often do you reckon we need to do this?
how do we know that there is moisture in the tank , or is it just a given fact that water will accumulate over a certain time period?

Good question. I think it's a given fact that it condensates on the inside of your tank.
But how often depends on alot of things. Where you live being probably the biggest factor followed by how often you fill the tank and drive the car.

I would say once a year.
And if it was my car i would not just put litre of metho straight into the tank. wouldn't want to run it through the lines to the engine but thats me.I would run the tank low then take out the drian plug and then put a few litres of metho in and rock the car to slosh around the tank then let it drain out. then i would have a few litre of fresh petrol to flush after the metho . Then back in with the drain plug and fill up the tank with fresh petrol and maybe some wyns spitfire or the like,
But thats how i'd do it.
