Finally gone, my old head unit held together with wood glue, a paperclip and a maccas wrapper. We bought it on sale years ago for $70, a "Rado" head unit and speaker kit from Kmart. Price should have been a dead giveaway, but it somehow ended up in the dash anyway. Let me reinforce the fact, if you want a HU, don't cut corners because it'll all go to hell within a week or two. The front speaker circuitry in the stereo blew, so I had to drive the fronts off the rear... gah. It was FAIL. There, said it.

</rant> :P

Now, I picked up a new head unit from Motoquipe, on special for $110, a Pioneer DEH-1950. Cheap as, but the build quality is excellent and the sound is at least 3x better than before. I sacrificed a few extra features, like Bluetooth connectivity and dimming lights, but it works brilliantly for the price and does exactly what I need it to, Tuner, CD and Aux/iPod.

Cheers to the group for the help, may not remember it but a few months back I was after wiring guides, turned out those came in handy. Cheers also to the folks in the chatroom for convincing me to ditch my old unit. :)

It's going well so far, I was going to replace the old speakers but with the new HU in, they sound a lot better. No subs, but I don't really need one at the moment anyway, the bass is already fairly decent (especially with "Loud Mode" on).

Just wish I could take it out for a run, it's been in the shed until I can change the brake pads over (current ones work, but just precautionary). In 43 degree heat, I think i'll leave it for a while. lol
