Hi guys,
My TJII has had a death over Christmas of the drivers power window.
It's peculiar as there is a knocking noise when it goes down or up and goes down fairly easily but up I have to use 2 hands and the switch and yank it up pretty hard. Up does work slightly but often dies either half way or almost at the top requiring manual lifting. Its like its being starved of the power to go up.
Doesnt seem like the cable in it is broken or it wouldnt work at all.
Anyone experienced similar and if I have to replace it any idea how I could get it done for lowest price in the shortest time being holidays and me and the Mrs meant to be going away next week.

Could be anything. Rip the door trim off and have a look and see if you can see anything obvious. Hopefully you can sort it or leave it closed till you can get someone to look at it.

do the TJ have cable drive from the motor to raise / lower the windows? or older (ie Ford ZL Fairlane style) direct gears onto the glass fixture?
if they are the latter - the gears are stripped out, and need placing.
if its the first, then the motor might be starting to die, it could have all sorts of crud on the cables and guides - might even just need a light oiling of the runners (use dry lube sticks for this)
if you cant find the problem after pulling the trim off and having a looksie, just get the window right up and leave the lekki switches unplugged - that way you dont have to worry about knocking it accidentally and then having to get the thing back up. at least until you can get mitsu or similar to look at it.

once the trim is off
you may be able to undo the motor or push the glass up
then hold the window up with a stick inside the door
while you sort out the motor/cable problem out
cables can come off the guides frey or the motor just stops
I was able to undo the motor(held on by hex bolts) this released the window

funny thing.. this happened to mine on the front passenger door, glass wouldn't come up after winding it down to talk to a mate at a set of lights on the way to work in the morning.. i pulled the trim and plastic off.. to reveal that the cable had slipped off the spool gone between the spool and the motor, kinked the cable and frayed it in many places.. all i did was remove the 3 bolts on the glass, the 3 that hold the motor and the 4 bolts holding the motor/track assey in.. pulled that whole lot out.. threw it in the bin.. got to the wreckers i think i pulled it out of a TF sports.. same side ofcrouse.. which was mint.. bolted it in place, put a bit more lube on the rails.. and perfect.. all done.. this way you don't have to f*** around with the cables and pullies etc cos it's all one assembly that just slots into place.. i didn't even have to take the glass out of the door.. just easier with 2 ppl so the other one can hold the glass up while your doing your thing..
cost $50 for the 2nd hand assembly from the wreckers, and about 15 mins of your time..
hope that helps..
