g'day guys

basically what i wanted to know is if anyone in the pakenham area in SE melb is prepared to let me use their ECU (V6) so i can see if it is in fact the ECU that has died on my car
if anyone can help me out so i don't waste $200 on a new one that may not be the problem i can be called on 0400481117

i have no spark most of the time
on occasion it "almost" wants to start but can't quite do it
other times it just turns over smoothly like it has no ignition just positive to the starter
fuel pump and ecu relays are both working and i have tried another coil
i just don't wanna have to buy a new ecu and find out it's not the problem
might take my ecu to a wreckers and ask if i can try it in a complete car if they have one

If it starts "nearly" then the ECu is most likely not the issue as they either work or don't work.
You may have better luck asking someone if they can try your ECU in their car incase therre is an electrical problem causing your ECU to die.
Simply check, remove the ECU cover, look for burn marks just near the plug. It is caused by the capacitor leaking and the board corrodes

if i have to take my ecu to someone elses house i'm happy to do that but this has me stumped
drove the car to work in the afternoon with the a/c on and it didn't miss a beat
2am that night she just refused to start:confused:
had to get my wife to come and get me then had to organise a way to get the magna home

If ECU is no good, it will not generally send the auto into fail safe mode, that is a TCU function. The Magna ECU does not have a limp home mode like the fords and holdens do either. Once it is gone, it is gone.
You said you can hear the relay for the ECU and Pump click, it may be a bad contact inside as I have found before, grab another from pick a pat or jolly rogers, they generally charge 8 bucks for a relay. YOu can also get a ECU from there for about 70 bucks, may be a cheap alternative to test it all out.

not much help to you but I have a question. You were saying that you can get a new ecu for $200? is that a mitsubishi one? I ask because mitsubishi wanted $1024:00 for a new one to suit my TR 2.6 4cyl mule. Do they just make up a price to see if they can cause a person to go into shock?
nah the leading hand storeman just got his secret mistress pregnant and needed the extra cash to bail her out..

the $200 ecu was from a wreckers
a mate of mine who is a parts clerk said he can get me an ecu for about 700 so over a grand retail sounds about right

You are all being ripped off blind
A reco ECU will cost about 2 - 250
A Pick a part or similar wreckers will cost you about 70, you can remove the cover and check it for your self, if not burnt 99% it will work.
E-bay will cost about 120 tops.
I would not pay these days 200 for a wreckers ECU in a pink fit given you can pick up a complete car for about that.
