Hey all
I;ve got the front regulators, switches, elite engine fusebox and wiring connectors for the power windows from a TN Elite. I'm just after advice on how to get the regulators in the best condition before I put them in the car? I assume i should re lubricate all the moving parts? Whats the best means of doing this? I read in some thread that silicon spray or something? Anyone tried this?

Also has anyone got any other useful advice for the conversion? I plan to do the wiring myself from scratch.

No ideas?

My other issue is my current GLX engine bay fusebox has the plastic fuse and relay holders for the elite options but not the metal contacts or wiring, So I;ve taken the entire engine bay fusebox from the donor car. Now short of just rewiring in the whole elite fuse box is there anyway to remove the extra fuse contacts from the elite box and fit them to the GLX one?

Ok, now i know nothing about 1st gens here but your saying there is now P/W provision in your GLX fusebox?

On the TR there was a power windows provision so i simply (wasnt that simple actually) added the relay and tapped into that circuit

Theres the plastic mount for the relays but not the metal connectors that fit within the mount, I just wanna try remove the metal connectors from elite box and fit them into the GLX fusebox?

I dont see why that wouldnt work.
If not , crimp some wires and shove the ends through

Power windows actually give me the ****s. I wont mind removing the front ones and just leaving the rears ( unless i get some nice fast replacement motors )

I;ve had another look and maybe rewiring the complete elite fusebox wouldnt be the hardest thing in the world to do. Tufftr when you did the conversion in your 2nd gen did you clean up the regulators at all before putting them in?

Nah mate, just put them in hoping they'd work.
And everyone besdies the drivers door works like magic.
I would ask MadMagna what grease to put on the runners (as it had some form of white grease on them)

I wouldnt rewire the fusebox man thats a whole heap of work.
theres got to be a way you can just shove 4 female spade connectors in there

my usefull advice to anyone wanting to do the same conversion

get the TN doors matching your cars colour
that have the power windows already fitted and fit the complete doors

Yeah i considered the idea but i could only find elites which have to two tone paint, plus mine already had my aftermarket central locking installed and pick a part would have charged me a mint for the whole door.

take the regulators out of the doors from the elites at the wreckers and put them in your doors...

NO need to find mathcing doors, NO need to cut doors to get regulators out.

i've done the conversion to my own car and my mates, as madlante has done his too.

get me on msn if you want details.

To begin with, the probability of finding matching doors will be like finding a RWD magna!

The regs will go straight in the doors, the rear doors have the holes with grommens there already

Now the wiring, you will have 2 choices, use ALL the wiring from the donor car (this will lead to a problem with the EFI in the elite as the GLX is carb so you are up for the efi conversion which is not a bad thing)

the second way, grab the elite wiring, strip out the window related wiring, remove your harnesses and then put this into yours, This is the way I did it the one time I did this conversion.

You can run new wiring but if you are like me I hate and loath any wiring which does not look factory!

As for the grease, it is a special grease that will not attract dust and will not go hard like tegular grease will, from memor is a lithium bases grease, will look to see if I have any left for a name and brand,

Yeah im not concerned with finding matching doors, Im happy with installing the regs into my current doors. All im worried about is spending ages installing them and then discovering that they are slow as because i didn't grease them properly.

I've got the GLX with the EFI option so that wouldnt be an issue anyway.

In regards to wiring I've got the wiring diagrams from my workshop manual, (same as the ones posted above) as well as about half of the door part of the original wiring from an elite. So based on that I can make the rest up from scratch (I dont mind doing this, I find the wiring process of just one wire after the other rather therapeutic and relaxing). Once I've done that I can sleeve, heatshink and tape as much as possible then hide the rest under the interior trims and whatnot. This will retain the factory look of the wiring.

Still unclear about which grease to be using, Its going to be a cooler day tomorrow so i was going to go shopping then. If you could find the name of the stuff to use it would be much appreciated.

I'd give this stuff (http://www.wd40.com.au/3in1Pro.html) a go. The White Lithium grease, 2nd one down. Its from the same company as WD-40 so I'm sure bunnings will have it.
