Red Wagon Man

Just bought a 2003 TJ Wagon, one of the first mods i want to do is spruce up the boring grey interior to match the bright red body. When i pop off the centre console to paint it i want to change the bulbs for red led's. Has anyone done this, what do i need to know & does it look good :?:

I've done this with blue LEDS, its a horrible horrible job... Leds aren't like light bulbs, leds only put out light directly infront of them. So it means you'll need a hellova lot if you want to get the light even. Look at getting at least 25-30 for your cluster, thats the only way i could get mine light up evenely.
If you pull it off it will look porn
If you just want Red, i can't see why u can use red bulbs.

you can actually buy little rubber covers for tiny globes that just slide over them. Go to an auto stor and ask for either the hella or narva catalogue. I'm pretty sure you cant buy thrm seperate, you have to buy a pack of amber, red and green ones, there are about 6 or8 in a pck. Hope this helps

i used the little rubber caps, i also changed all the bulb's to 5w.......insted of the stock 3w, otherwise they look dull and greeny insted of blue
the colour is even(not real good photos)

yeah but you don't wrap it around the bulbs, but place behinde the dials (the sheet with the numbers and stuff)

You can try I guess!
The tr/ts clusters already have blue bulb covers on them..and they dont do squat...
LED's can work..you just have to get the right ones.

Yeah and they're ludicrously expensive, and they're not that thin.

Blake, not flaming you mate but 35 leds?
I used 4, mine goes from dim, how i like it to very bright, no hot spots and looks great.
You just remove the bulb, solder a resistor in the globe holder, the led onto that and then U angled the led's away from the front to rid the hot spots, all in all it looks great.

5mm leds are unsuitable - look up 'superflux' - much wider angle, and several times brighter.

I have the super bright ones, look like a std led however just brighter and these have worked a treat.
Quite a few have seen them, Magna has seen them recently

Nope, not those...
These - http://shops.bizarsoftware.com.au/ATAShop/catalogue/category16/category41/category86/category60
5 X the light output of a 5mm superbright - used in automotive lighting, for stop lights, blinker etc.

No matter how many time I tried I couldn't get the light even
And being the perfectionist I am I went all out and did the job right. Looks a million :D

the cellophane u are talking bout i think are actually filters for stage lights ..... though as its already been menttioned they are quite thick so u would need a decent amount of light to even be able to see what ever colour glow u want
