was driving down the highway the otherday and doing 110km/h in 5th and the car was revving at 2500, is this to high for the car to be revving cause plenty of other cars rev way lower at that speed?

sounds a little low for a manual. If you had an auto id be expecting about 350-380 with a heavy foot.

i would hope the manuals would get close to the 400 mark

how big are the 1st gen fuel tanks? if they are the same as the 2nd gens, then what i said above is what you should roughly be getting.

Sedan - 64 Litres
Wagon - 74 Litres

The astron can really suck the fuel if you're heavy with the right foot, carby also. :)

Yeah that seems abit low, My auto gets 400km in the suburbs and 450-500 on the highway. Is EFI noticeably more economical then carby?

My five speed manual v6 revs at 2500 at 100kmh. So you are doing better than me!

God knows whey they didn't give it a taller fifth gear. My Auto 2.6 used to run at 2300 at 100ks

now that id like to see, especially since it's carby. last year i did a 7500klm road trip and the best i could get was 550 a tank highway driving .
mines efi auto but still 800 klms:nuts: don't know of any magna that would do that not even a 3rd gen and there not 17yrs old:D

Sounds a bit high mine sits around 2200 at 100ks in overdrive thats with a 3 month old reco gearbox. Your torque converter may not be going into lock-up mode when cruising on the highway. Or it could just be the gearbox getting old and tired. I don't know how Neo gets 1800 at 100ks

On the open road, I used to regularly get 650-680 kms out of my TN sedan which was a carby auto. Around town it was awful but very good in the country.

I had plenty of opportunity to test it on a trip to Ayers Rock from Sydney via Broken Hill and back via Mount Isa. At the time, there were no speed limits in the NT and hardly any traffic, so we were cruising at 130+ all day. If I didn't get 600 to a tank, I'd assume something was badly wrong unless I was thrashing it.

We carried an extra 30 litres in the boot and ran the tank dry a couple of times trying to work out how much reserve there is once the warning light comes on. From memory, I think it is only about 30 kms worth.

My car was 12 yrs old then and would not have been in optimum tune. If you were disciplined enough to stay at a steady 100 kph or less, 800 might be possible in a well tuned car. That is 8 litres per 100km.

I don't think my current sedan (TP carby auto) would go anywhere near that but haven't done any country trips in it yet. My Wagon (TP EFI auto) has been from Sydney to Brisbane and back several times. I didn't record the results but they weren't good. Now that the valve stem seals and oxygen sensor have been replaced, it is noticeably more economical around town, so I am keen to test it properly on a country trip.

I can only get about 2000rpm at 100kms now that I have smaller tyre/wheel package :(

Oh yeah I forgot you have 17" rims which is why your revs are lower.

What happend? Why do you have a smaller wheel package?

lol not exactly 800kms but it was close enough. drove from port lincoln to Adelaide which is about 700kms. my dad drove half way, i drove half way. he sat on 110kph, i sat on 100 (as i am on my p2s and leagally cant exceed 100kph) we did the maths and it equaled almost 8l per 100ks. it was sumthing like 8.16ls i was suprised because it doubled my ks around town.

That sucks you can't do anymore than 100ks on your P's. I can't believe Victoria dont have that rule it would suck if we did. It's not right to limit a P plater to 100ks because your not learning under all driving conditions.

No, my 17"/40 profile is smaller than my old 14"/70 profile or whatever I was using.
