Howdy all;
Im looking at buying a set of racing seats for my TS and im a bit confused so my questions are
1. Will a set of SAAS recliners fit in the current position of my standard seat?
2. Will i need to take of the runners from my stock seats and fit them to the new ones so that they match the holes on the floor?
if yes to question 2
3. Will i need an engieers certificate for the work that needs to be done?
All help is greatly appreciated
Cheers

i may be wrong but im pretty sure your going to need some custom runners made up for those seats which means they will need an engineers report

I had a set of Just Jap racing seats in my TR for a while which were sitting on fully custom steel rails made up by the previous owner.
I never got an engineers certificate because it was SOOO expensive and never once got done for them, not even any police attention.

hope that gives a little bit of insight...

Re Engineers cert

Do you need one for modified seat rails? In NSW you do.
Think about this. You have non std seats fitted on non engineered rails, you are unfortunate enough to T bone a Lambo and write it off. Your insurance company notices you have a non std seat and asks to see the eng certificate. No certificate? Well sir, you are driving a car with an illegal modification, that means your insurance is cancelled. You will be paying the lambo off for a while.

Most of the big name after market seat suppliers ie Recaro, SAAS should be able to supply an engineered adapter to fit their seats to your car. Might be worth considering.

There have been quite a lot of Recaro seats on ebay recently with pretty good prices. I bought a pr for $400.They are in pretty god condition. Considering a new Recaro starts at around $1500 each then it might be worth thinking about 2nd hand and then buying a new adapter to suit your car.

If it was me Id just be getting a Ralliart interior, or even a VRX/Sports interior and fitting it to my 2nd Gen, I fitted my old KE interior into a KR with minimal complications.

No point spending big $$$ on a TS IMO as it would be wasted cash for minimal gain (referring to engineers report for a set of seats)

Yes you certainly can. Mate got his done on his XR6, around $1200-$1500 ea from memory for padding them up and retrim them in 2 different colour leather and XR logo embossed in them.

They're ****ing awesome seats to sit in, I'd take them over racing seats any day. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. I'm sure you could get them done alot cheaper if you didn't need leather and ****.
