I'm guessing this is the right area!!!

I have an old laptop screen (Thinkpad 390X if that matters)
My son has one of them portable DVD players for in the car with AV Output

My question for you electronics guru's is...
If it's possible to re-plug this screen to be used in the car?
All wiring is still attached to the screen and a pic supplied if need be :)

please supply pic.
id imagine it would be pretty hard though.
those laptop screens are more often than not hard-wired into the motherboard of the laptop.

any one else done it before??

Been trying to do this with an old ThinkPad 600, have to say it's pretty difficult and everywhere I ask says it can't be done. :doubt:

If anyone finds otherwise though, we'd all be eager to hear it. lol

The impression I got was that the LCD connects directly to the computer's onboard graphics controller, draws it's power from there, recieves the data in a digital format (unlike Aux, VGA)... technically it can be done, but after you've bought the extra inverters, converters, etc to make it work, and actually found those separate components, you've already spent $200 to $300 in parts. Doesn't make much sense since you can get a fully equipped LCD panel for as little as $90 in some places.

You need to find out if you can get a separate controller board for the panel :(

Someone is selling VGA - TFT LCD Panel LVDS Controller Back Light Inverter in ebay, I hope this is the one you are looking for. You can use your old laptop lcd into a VGA screen. For $58.00 delivered, not bad at all.
Better yet VGA AV S TV - TFT LCD Panel LVDS Controller R/C which will turn your lcd into LCD TV.
