So basically i installed a Cannon exhaust a few weeks ago on my TR, (Dont want hate from cannon haters) and since then my car hasnt been running the same, This problem also happened once or twice before i put the exhaust on though.

Anyways, going up long and steep hills, it hits a certain point and splutters alot, Sometimes backfires and tries to die on me, this also happens when you rev it real hard.

Im thinking it may either be the fuel injectors, or the aftermarket exhaust **admin edit** up the compression..

If anyone has any ideas as to a fix, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you still have the old exhaust? Could always try swapping it back to eliminate whether the exhaust is the issue.

Funny you mention that, as its the one thing i wanted to keep and the one thing i forgot to tell them to put in the back seat of the CAR before i left!!!!:doubt:

it's your new exhaust for sure
the workshop didn't do something right
let's wait for dan's reply he's the pipe expert here

Yeah im thinking so... But it did it a few times before it was put on, and only recently got worse... The new exhaust i threw on was a 2.25" or 2.5" to 4" out Cannon, At least i bought a good brand of exhaust :P

I doubt a muffler would cause this...
would be something like your dizzy cap or something else...

ah, well if it happened before the exhaust was put on then i doubt it's got anything to do with the new exhaust... yep could be your distributer
take it to a workshop tomorrow morning and ask them to check your distributer out
sometimes when water gets on the distributer it'll cause the car to start doing some whacky sh*t (that's why you've always gotta have a can of WD-40 on you incase you run through a massive puddle and water gets on it)
but yeah, get it checked out tomorrow and let us know what they say

Check/replace these, in order of importance:

-Fuel filter
-Air filter
-spark plugs
-ignition timing

if none of these fix the symptoms.. it'll need a bit more diagnosis.

have had cars with similar issues, when driving you are fine, put under load and it will loose power to the extent it is like you shut it down

You floor it and will sometimes clear

This is usually very blocked injectors or fuel filter, also get your pump checked.

Dist cap will usually surface when engine is initially cold and then get worse.

Get your fuel flow and pump checked also

If in Vic, PM me as I may be able to have a look

I've yet to see a magna fuel pump be 'half dead'. They seem to either run or dont.

Its also possible the air flow meter could be at fault.

But yeah definately get a good tune-up and as mal said, it might be worth checking fuel pressure if nothing else resolves it.

Yeah, umm, have 2 of them in my garage, usually they do just quit but some do seem to loose the ability to flow. At idle, low load they are fine, when the engine starts to use some of the fuel it needs, they can not keep up.

Also check the sock filter on the fuel pump inlet, these tend to block also.

That would've been my bet as to the pump half flowing... but fair enough if you've seen it happen. Too many variables to check/diagnose now lol.

^ does sound like the problem and whats happening, got the mag booked in at a mechanics for next monday (closest i could get)

the guy sounded pretty enthuastic to fix it, which is a good sign.. I will mention all of the above posts to him to narrow it down quicker and hopefully get it fixed so i can leave feedback for people having the same problem!

Thanks again for your support guys, it really is appreciated!

Hey, i can say the cannon is definately not the problem... But being less muffled you will hear it alot worse...

Another thing to check maybe the O2 sensor before the cat... may have been knocked.

Changing somthing that far down the exhaust wont create problems like the above mentioned. Maybe if you cut it off at the extractors.... No backpressure can cause popping on backoff...

Get a Mechanic.???

If out of the question... get some ice in a can, when the motor is COLD spray some on the spark plug and it should loosen, if not try the old penetrant of your choice;wd-40 etc

Changed sparkplugs today, fixed it a little... at low rpm its still stuttering and seeming to set it off, at high rpm on highways and stuff it drives fine...

Maybe monitor your fuel usage.. see if the check engine indicator illumiates periodically, could indicate a failing O2 sensor. Next steps could be change fuel filter and ignition leads and do a throttle body / carby clean, depending which u have.

Ignition Leads were the problem i think... It was miss-firing, New leads = Car fixed!:P

So have you installed the leads?
and its fixed the problem???

i found the same thing when i installed my exhaust but i know what mine is.
i have blown two rings on the motor and it sometimes stutters when under load and cold.
but i don't mind. it will get fixed shortly.

i was going to ask how many k's its done, but since u have it fixed it don't matter ;)

MGNTZM

hrmm still comes to a stutter when you flog it hard.... wierd... its done about 235,000 ks...
stays good at low rpm and at high... but the accelerating hard is setting it off...

ADZA27
15-01-2008, 07:52 AM
so...it stutters when you flog it hard?... sry bad joke

i just hope you aren't as unlucky as i, and need to rebuild the motor..
have you checked your air flow meter?

you can identify computer error codes by bridging out pins in the driver footwell on 1 of the connections down there... i never remember which one thou untill i look lol

Hahaha, I dont litrally mean flog it real hard... just reving it at home to see what it can and cant handle... i never drive in a hoon sort of way, I just wanted to see if the problem was fully fixed or not.lol

Might go buy some cleaner this week if i get the spare time, and will definatly check the air.
