Hello All

I'm new here and I have recently bought a KR Verada xi for the girlfriend. It had a blown headgasket so between me and the old man we have taken the engine out and mostly rebuilt it. I'm interested to know what people think of them and any common things I should look for?

Thanks in advance David

Hi
Make sure the Cam belt is replaced every 100,000k,
Be sure to use genuine Mitsibishi long life Anti freeze at least 30% but 50% is better as otherwise they tend to rot headgaskets.
Dont flog the tits off it,
run it on a good oil I have run both mine on Magnatec and have never had a problem no ticking lifters on start up.
cheers Jim.

Ok thanks can you tell me what is different about the genuine mitsubshi coolant versus the nulon long life concentrate?

Hmm, KR Xi... does it have the electronic controlled suspension (ECS)? Can be either a blessing or a curse, depending on what condition it is in (most have been replaced with standard suspension by now)

Yeah your right, it had ecs but it doesn't appear to have it now funny that. I also have a 90 fairlane that also had Self leveling suspension also returned to standard.

Ummm no, a good glycol based coolant is fine, valvoline, acdelco etc. My rada I ran non mits coolant, towed a 8x5 tandem trailer from melb to adelaide on a 40 deg day, temp guage did not budge

Again, these motors love a good run every now and again, ask some of he older vic members about my car in mm04 in black spur lol

Oils, I always have and always will only use penrite

I had the 92 XI, was one of the best cars I have ever owned, only sold it as I was simply not using it

ECS would have crashed many years ago, there is a proper way to convert it and a cheap way, in mine I removed all the lines, tanks, solonoids, wiring etc when I converted it

Rebuiding the engine new main/con rod bearings, new rings reseated valves new seals etc. etc. cam belt is new and I do agree with that. Yeah it still has all the soleniods and pipes and stuff for the ecs but the front shockers are definetely standard types haven't checked the rear yet.
