Ok, after a rather dificult reversing episode getting a trailer up a steep driveway my clutch had developed a shudder *kicks my *****

its not too bad and if you get the take off right it doesnt shudder at all, just when you are a bit lazy. then it shudders quite badly. still grips well and there is no slippage as far as i can tell. so my question is this. is it worth replacing it now, which would put a huge strain on the bank, or live with it for a bit then do it later. There are other things that i want to get done as well. it needs new front rotors (badly) and the cvs need to be rebooted. not to mention a service and tune. this stff is getting done asap, just need to get the parts. and then she is going up to the mech.

thinking that i will just live with the clutch and do the other stuff first, save a bit of cash and get a HD clutch for it. as i intend on keeping the car for a bit i want to fix it up propper, not a patch up and sell kinda job.

also, its it advisable to bleed the clutch hydrolic fluid after such an event like you would brake fluid?

I would say just check fluids, top them up and if it doesnt fix it then you will eventually master taking off without shudder and it will be like nuthin happend :D .

Sounds like you would've had to slip it a fair bit to get some good torque to mount the trailor. I'd say the flywheel has some hotspots now and needs a machine. If its drivable, keep persisting with it until you're ready to replace the clutch.

Oil on the clutch plate will cause a shudder. Try taking off in second gear several times, and then see if the shudder in first is gone. If this works, repeat the procedure whenever the shudder gets too bad.
Also, slop in driveshafts and / or diff can appear to be clutch shudder.
Check the engine mounts! Maybe the trailer incident broke a weakened mount?
Lastly - adjusting the TPS on my 2.6 manual to factory specs fixed my clutch shudder - donno how, but it did!

Reminds me - I have a clutch kit for a TS sitting around that I bought off eBay for $129. Bought it when my TS was shuddering, but adjusting the TPS fixed that. Now it will sit around until I get clutch slip.
My previous Magna, a TP wagon, came with both clutch shudder and a $800 receipt for the previous owner, for a new clutch, 20,000Km before I bought it. Diving under the car showed why a newish clutch can shudder - lots of rotational play in the driveshafts, indicating gearbox and diff play. Taking off at the right revs minimised the shudder, but it was always there. Moral? Don't expect a new clutch to fix a shudder if the problem is elsewhere.
