hey everyone

i have a tp magna and about 8 months ago i was running in on little fuel for about a month then let it sit at a train station for a few days, i came back and it was shuddering as soon as i chucked it into drive. i knew then it was a carby prob but not too bad.

lately ive been tossing up whether to get it fixed or not. ive been told the only way to clean it out is to overhaul it and that once the carby is taken out it warps and needs to be filled back to a new size.

id rather spend 500 to get my car working like new again then get a new one.

my questions are

is there any other way to clear a carby in a tp without an overhaul?

what would be a reasonable price to pay for an oerhaul if its the only option?

and how long will it survive shuddering in drive or reverse with a clogged carby?

i have a child on the way soon and am trying to find the best and cheaper way to a reliable car that will treat me well in an emergency

thank you

Is it only bad at idle? or throughout whole driving range?

Also, sorry.. silly question but how old's your fuel filter?

it idles at say 85% very very minimal shuddering- fuel filter maybe 2 months old!

Try running a dose or two of injector clean through for a couple of tanks. It can help clean the channels and jets out without having to remove the carb.

Also can you take the top off the carb without removing it? Not familiar too much with these, but all carbs I've seen don't need to be removed to be given a good clean. Remove the top and spray carby clean all over the shop and in every hole you can find. If it's only rough on idle then an overhaul might not be required - just take out the idle jets (normally on the side somewhere) and give them a good carby clean/blow out.

Ah, carbys. So much easier than these new fancy injected types lol
