View Full Version : Cutting Out???

Hey Guys,
Something has been bothering me for about 3 weeks now, just havent bothered aking around yet...
when i start up my car, the sound system (all stock, incl h/u) starts up and sometimes will play a bit, then just cut out. The head unit is still powered, its just not getting to the speakers or something.
Sometimes it will flick back on then off, depending on whether im hitting bumps etc.
If it starts working I can only have it around 5-8 volume, any higher and it cuts off.
One thing that makes me curious is that it is more prone to this in the daytime and I think it has something to do with the heat. On cool nights it usually stays on, at most volumes but during the day, it doesnt even begin and even when i turn power off to the h/u, the speakers make a kind of scratching, rubbing sound.
As if that wasnt enough, occasionally on start up, I think this only happens when im coming home from work so its pretty damn hot, it makes a rather loud brrrrrr sound while the engine turns over.

Theres the story.
Any ideas what the problem is? Or a solution?

Im probably gonna replace the whole thing soon, but while im waiting for my h/u to arrive, should i just get a full wiring kit installed???

Thanks in advance,

Benj

Do you have subs, if so, do they go off aswell?

If they don't, I suggest checking all the speaker cabling that it's not shorting out on the chassis.

If you're subs die aswell, I would suggest a headunit problem, heat however shouldnt be an issue though.

Oops my bad, late nights.. :P

Hmmm, if it's all stock I can't think what would have stuffed up, maybe if someone with a car similiar to yours that has had the same problem could post maybe.

But it still sounds like something might be shorting out on the chassis, I've had it two times with mine, once one of the connector wires came undone from one of the door speakers, and once one of the rear speaker wires running under some trim shorted out of the chassis.

It causes what you're getting here.

the fact that it happens when you go over a bump would suggest that it is a connection issue and that it happens during the day could be because the plastic coating on wires becomes hotter and more flexable and that my affect it somehow.

sounds like its time for an upgrade:D
