Hi all. My 3 litre engine packed it in, so I bought a 3.5 second hand (had 116,000 on the clock) and did the conversion. Well worth it. But question is. The guy said it was from a TK magna. Can't find that anywhere on redbook or in these forums. Anyone know what magna he was referring to? I thought he also said it was from a 2000 model car.
Thanks in advance.:)

Vin will give you a chassis model.... not the new motor he put in.

I know for sure its a 3.5 litre engine, but am not sure what model of car it came from. Ie, Th, Tj etc.

Could be a TH or a TJ, may even be KH or KJ (maybe thats where he got the T"K" from)

Obviously... were trying to work out what type of car it came from.
He has an engine number, not a VIN but, so dont know.

i've herd of it before it was a TF but it had TK on the compliance plate. it had a 3l engine. maybe someone with a TF could check there plate im sure some say TK on them.

Yes, good point, thanks for that correction, its the engine number, not the vin! Thought the engine number might indicate what model it's from.

Could ring Mitsubishi and tell them the engine number, and they will have a record of the car that it originally came from, if you REALLY want to know.

Yes, think I will do that. From what i've read, the power output of the actual engine is about the same from the first 3.5's up to the Tj, just a few breathing mods and other small stuff done. But it will be handy to know if I have to order spare parts and do maintenance etc. And it's just good to know exactly whats under the hood of your machine. Thanks for your help!:D

My TF has TK on the plate, either for the paint code, or the umm whats the word to describe interior level? (escapes me at the moment).
Will have a look tomorrow in the daylight.

they have "T/K" on the compliance plate
so it's applicable to a T series Mangna or a K series verada

thread
it's obvious the wrecker just took the info from this

That'd be appreciated! I know the veradahs had the 3.5 liter engine. Maybe its tied to it some how. So if andrewd is right, were K series veradahs a Tf year car? Ie 98.

TH - 147kw
TJ - 150kw??
TJMY02 - 155kw
Do you know if the timing belt had been changed?

Redbook - KE -1998_ 147Kw.
Not sure about that, or its service history. Mechanic who did the work said everything looked good. Have Changed all the DIY belts though.

I have redbook open, comparing side by side a 2000 TH and a 1998 Veradah. Veradah engine code is just 6G74, while the TH is 6G74M#######. No "M" is mentioned for the 98. My engine code has the "m" in it. Might indicate something. OR it might indicate I need to call Mitsu!:D

Ke- KH Veradas had the same engine, and the verada's all got the equivalent magna engine.
Check the timing belt yourself to make sure its in good condition, because you really dont want it to break.

Thought the M just meant it was a Mitsubishi engine?
the 6G74 is the 3.5 litre engine designation, and the 6G72 is the 3.0 version.

Will do mate. Is this a DIY project? I'm guessing thats the belt hidden under the plastic shroud on the left of the engine? I suppose, there's probably a thread on it somewhere.

Not sure on the M. Just going off redbook and the difference I noticed. I will update the thread next week after I call Mitsu.:)

Pull the cover off and just check the belt for signs of fraying, cracking etc, because if it has not been done and breaks, your basically going to need to find a new engine.
Edit: I cannot find anything on teh Internet about the M... Mitsubishi will be able to tell you but.

If you are pretty adept mechanically, then it should be possible. I have never tried it myself, so not sure what is involved. But if you can change all the other belts, then the timing belt cant be that much harder.
It should have been chaged at 100,000... but check it anyway, because better to err on the side of caution.

So is this saying you think its out of a 1998 KE Verada? I'd be concerned if thats what your saying, because there's no such thing as a 1998 KE. It's 96-97 KE or 97-99 KF.

they must use the same plate for Verada's and magnas as the T means Magna and the K means Verada as in TH Magna KH Verada
