View Full Version : idea for painting solara mags

i recently purchased these TJ Solara wheels from Liberate (cheers mate!) and was thinking about painting them up, so they don't looks QUITE as stock when i use them as stockies... i don't think the photoshop really shows how it will look once done (especially seeing theres bricks visible, not suspension/brakes, and theres no wheel nuts either) but was necessary to show what i was trying to achieve..
tyres will be removed, and all surfaces will be prepared as thorough and neatly as possible, so it doesn't look like a dodgy, or even aftermarket job
thinking they'll look pretty cool old-school, kinda like old muscle car rims from the 70's
what does everyone else think?

Seeing as your car is white, these shouldn't look to bad.
I guess it's just a matter of what effort is involved and why your going back to stockies - is the effort worth it.
But for some reason I keep thinking of the old 'Black and White Minstrels' when I look at them. lol

keep in mind you have a modern(ish) luxury car, not a 70's muscle car...
I think they'd look stupid on your rada :doubt:
Just my opinion...

mainly coz the tyres i've got at the moment are about 2 years old, and starting to wear down a bit, so i'll run stockies to save cash for the next set, instead of using interest free or anything like that. so they'll end up being on the car for a while, and i love my black rims, but i think these would look a little cheap if they were just all-black.
i've always wanted to give painting rims a go, and this will be a mix of painting and polishing (the silver parts will be polished) and in the end, they were cheap :D so if i stuff it up, its not the end of the world!

The last pic looks pretty sweet. you dont wanna paint black next to the tyre because it makes the profile look higher. We used to paint the sunraysias rims on our 4x4's like that to make the tyres look bigger and the rims smaller.
but the ones with the silver to the edge looks sweet. If you dont wanna paint them yourself a fair few people i know have powder coated their rims which loosk awsome and can be done in most colours fairley cheep.

I agree :)
The 2nd pic that firestorm chopped also looks pretty sweet. Doesn't quite look as chunky, might suit a more modern car a lil more.
Either way would look nice though.

yeah that pic is one i was thinking of aswell, but i'm trying to get rid of the "star" look the mags have... for some reason i hate 5-spokes that look like stars :D
