Hey guys 'n gals,

Not sure if anyone else has tried this, but anyway:

I was talking to a fella at work who takes an interest in cars, and upon learning of my choice of vehicle he suggested that the car isn't getting a steady flow of air, being that the snorkel is right behind the weather strip that is attached to the bonnet and sits over the grille and headlights.

So I removed the strip ... and phwoar, what a difference! It doesn't really help the TH rough idle problem, and it's no supercharger, but when I give it a bootful I get that silly grin I used to wear when I first bought it, even with the aircon on.

And best of all, it's completely free, easily reversible and it took all of 2 minutes to perform!

Thinking about doing that later on actually ... might do it while I'm waiting for the original muffler to die so I can justify a 2.5" Redback/Lukey exhaust system to the wife. :)

Edit: Maybe not 90mm, but an internal snorkel nonetheless! :P

woohoo i can feel a bit of a difference and the car is louder now, but wouldn't the ecu compensate for it after awhile?

Why would it...the ecu is a straight up map. more air = more fuel added.

I did this some time ago and posted about it and had the usual detractors. It seems that the weather strip in question must only be on some and not all 3rd gens. I dunno if it made any difference, but the air intake sucking right up against some rubber blocking the air flow can't be good. You'll probably suck more dust etc in on a dusty road, but thats what a filter is for.

Not to mention the throttle is there to slow/restrict air flow down anyway 99.9% of the time.

I have done the same on my car, removed the black plastic strip and cut away some of the rubber seal in front of the air intake opening. But now i wonder if i should remove the entire rubber seal to let more air into the engiene bay, especially since it gets pretty hot under there with the supercharger.
