I just got my magna's windows tinted yesterday.. i was originally going for the 35% tint the rep told me this is the rta approved tint that allows 35% light to pass through your glass, i thought it was too light to bother tinting so i asked her about the darker tints...
she told me they are good but they aren't rta approved and i mite have trouble getting it passed pink slip wen rego comes around next... but she did recommend someone that would pass it and told me cops wouldnt pull me up for it.. so i end up going with the 15% tint pretty dark and i thought it was ***n awesome...
Until i had to reverse into my driveway at night and couldnt see ****.. also they gave a life time warranty of no peeling and bubbling yet when i looked at the rear glass from the outsite it looked like it wasn't completely flat and around the edges it didnt have a consistent look.
I'm going back today in the morning to get them to redo it...
I was wondering if anyone has got pulled up by the cops or whatever with such a dark tint?

you will have bubbles for a few weeks, this is normal and I am surprised they didn't tell you this... basically you leave it alone for a few weeks, don't try to clean the inside etc... and don't wind your windows for 24-48 hours either and it should set on and the imperfections should dissipate.
I had a very dark tint on my magna and the only part that never really set was around the very edge of the rear window on the checkered shade area... i was to understand that it would be doubtful that the film would set to the screen there as the surface was raised where the shade film already was... it was sort of annoying but I got used to it. few others would really notice it either.
As for the Police... doubtful, but they might sting you if you have a list of other defects... but other people have had the driver and front passenger window a slightly lighter shade to conform even though the rear windows were still darker.

Wow 15% that's insane!
Here i was thinking i'd be a rebel doing 30% :P.
I plan on going 30% on the sides and 20% on the rear.
But wow 15%, my vision isn't the best at night so i'm glad i'm not driving that :P.

30%? Woos:P
15% percent seems dark but you'll get used to it sooner or later and the tint wont be a problem

Good work 15% is the best..:) Welcome to the club..:)
Ive had mine like that for over tow years now..:) Its the lightest ive had any on my cars. the darkest ive been is 3 layers of 20 which in turn is 1%..:P
With reversing it easy if you got power windows. put them down and you cansee out of your mirrors with easy. no power windows and your up for a hard time reversing..:)

I have 20% on mine and find it dark enough. It's pretty hard to see out at night, but I have power windows so it's easy just to wind them down to see.
The place where I got it done told me that they do 20% all the time, and the only people that get picked up for it are those that drive like idiots and get stung for other things. The car is then looked over and they get done for the tinting.
I see heaps of cars with 20%, so I don't think it's a problem.

I have 8% on all windows and 32%? maybe on the back windscreen. It used to 8% all round but i couldnt see out the back window at all so i redid it.
But yeah, you do get used to dark tint.

I'm surprised no-one has asked for pics yet, so pics of the car with windows tinted would be good.
Tinted windows finish a car off nicely.
My car's windows were tinted when I bought it but the rear window has lots of bubbles so needs to be redone. Is there anyway of measuring the % of existing window tint?
...and I guess if there was it may also differ because some cars have factory tinted glass as well?

how did you see out of 1% tinting??? that means it's letting in 1% of the visible light from outside... did you wind down your windows to change lanes too?

I have 20% tint all round and reversing at night with no street lights can sometimes be a problem...but that's where the infra red reversing camera comes in so handy :D

During the day it was okay. nite was crap.. main road with street lights was ok. back streets couldnt see a thing. had to drive bacj streets with windows down so i didnt mount any kerbs or parked cars..:P
during the day you could see out and with your face against the glass you couldnt see in. not even shadows..:) Only got 1 defect in 1 year..:)

You reckon? I've attached pics of my 35% tint.
I'll be the first to admit that it doesn't look as awesome as something darker. However, it's a ****load better than stock, it's completely and utterly legal, and I don't have to do silly things to drive at night. Different things for different people but I'm completely satisfied with how it turned out :) Even if I got it re-tinted one day there's no way I'd go below 20% :)

dont know what the hell you guys are on about. 35% is plenty for me, it looks good as i only wanted them darker rather than not being able to see anything. and most of the time unless theres a streetlight shining right into the window you cant really see much in anyway. they are nice and reflective and in my opinion looks rather clean on a white car. dark cars are a different story. this isnt trying to bash your opinions but im VERY happy with the 35%.
to the OP, leave the back window as is for now, itll take a bit of time to settle properly, you can try just pushing on it with your finger.
p.s. with good film and quality job you should be able to wind windows straight away (words of the dude who did my windows and has been in the business for 20 years, i wound windows down as i left his place and never had a problem with peeling)

Yeh, guy who did mine said the he used a heat gun around the top edges so that it wouldnt peel up, and said I could wind the windows down straight away. I didnt for a few days anyway though coz im obssesive.

dammit, after 2 years of not regretting getting 20% dark tint, now i want mirror tint, u can barely see inside ur car! (by the looks of things)
1st time i got my windows tinted i thought, "woah, so dark! u can barely see inside, awesome!" but now i feel that u can see into my car :(
ive got no problems driving at night with my dark tints.. much, only problem ive got is wen i get out of the garage at night, from a bright room into my car my eyes dont adjust fast enough.. but once im on the road im all good

...unfortunately reflective tint is also illegal and the cops will pull you over for reflective tint before they pull you over for darker than legal tint.
This is my old car, the cressida, had 3% tint on it and i miss it sooo much, have 15% reflective now...

Its not full mirror.. you look straight at it and you can see in. from a couple of feet away. where the other stuff is like a mirror, cant see in at all

if u meant me, then yes and no.. the wheels and kit and lowerage is but the tint is real.. was hoping to get the TX5 to look like that while i have it, that was till i decided that i want a caprice or international statey for my next car.. ive got the rims sitting in the garage waiting for rubber though
