yeah, i looked at this a while ago, but decided i would do it when i redo the roof lineing, its only just starting to sag, so i figure when it gets bad i will pull it out then look at putting in some map lights and the holder. from what i could see it should all work

Yeah same here, thought they might work, and they charged me peanuts for them so thought why not.
Only thing im confused about is there is 1 earth, and 2 red wires, now i know one power im just trying to figure out what the other would be...

the other red wire might be for the map reading lights?
and the one you have allready found, might be for the doors open / interior light?

Thing is, is they are ONLY map lights AFAIK, i.e. only needs one source of power as each light is either on or off, not both at one time.

I know the middle light (verada one with 3 lights) has 2 wires going in + an earth.
eh guess the wires are already there all i have to do is hook em up and see really.

yeah, i have no idea what the other wire is for. i assumed it was a link of the door lights. maybe there is a remote wire for them for some reason, like to hook in with a GPS or alarm or something. where did you get your set from? a wreckers or from mitsi?

wreckers man
I was familiar with the wiring going to the bulb, but from the bulb it went to the switch which then had the extra wire.

Anyway might not do it today but ill do it sometime this week

I'll post pictures up tonight of this but for now i'll give you a rundown.
Theres the massive bracket and the light itself.
The light itself WILL fit in there, its quite slender once you remove the angled connector on the back.

The bracket is the problem, You see it allows for this angled connector on the back of it by having a HUGE lump in the metal, or bend, whatever.
______
So basically with this massive bend (goes like this...____I I_____) its twice the size of the old light and will not fit (well it squeezes into the roof but it wont close up...)

So basically what i have to do is devise a way to remove that massive bend in the bracket and make it smooth, with a few holes to bolt it to the roof.

So i might get my nannu to weld it up for me if possible becuase i dont see it working any other way.

And i need it to work, Now have a nice 4 x 5" hole cut out of my lining so one way or another, it will work :D

Oh and the wiring is simple as, if you already have map lights, use that wire, and a ground, simple.

This is the pic i have of the bracket
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a52/dodgeviper89/hhhhhhhhhhhhhh.jpg

As you can see that huge metal lump is only there AFAIk to accomodate for the connector plug which I've removed.

SO, once i find out how to make that flat it should work :D
Just a heads up for ya's all

Should be done by the end of the week.
Took it to my grandfather today who measured it up, cut it, hit it with a hammer to flatten it out, and welded it, so now the lump is gone, and hopefully i can drill the holes, drill it into the roof without ruining the whole car (lol) and hopefully it mounts up ok.
I still think this will protrude out a tiny bit further then the old lights but it shouldn't be noticeable anyway.
eh, worst case scenario i need another roof lining...

Well, its in and working!
and my god does it feel weird!!

In drilling the holes to make the bracket stick to the roof, i got lucky and was able to use the 2 exsisting holes from the rada lights
I'll give everyone who wants to try this a rundown of how to do it
*If you have Map lights already, then this will be easier. I just "extended" The cut in the roof about 5" outward
*Obvioulsy measure up the holes roughly, measure twice cut once etc.
* The bracket will need to be cut, flattened, and welded back together. My nannu (grandfather) cut it, flattened it, and welded it up in like 40 minutes :)
* I pre drilled some holes in the bracket, put it against the roof and then used spray paint to leave an impression on the roof.
*I drilled some holes CAREFULLY so that way i could bolt it together.
*wiring was easy...You'll see a ton of wires but most are for the electric sunroof button.
from the switch and lights there will be 3 wires, red, green, and yellow. Discard yellow. Green is your earth, and red is power. SIMPLE AS THAT!

once the bracket is in, it just clips in place.
I'll get some photos up soon. But yeah feels and looks so good :2cool:

how much was the whole light and sunglasses section?

gerard - wait till i cover it in tyre black
dimi - whole thing was like $20! couldnt believe it!

Nah roof didnt get touched besides the 2 small holes i drilled to make it all fit.
You gonna get dan to weld it up for ya? :P make sure you draw a template of the bracket on some paper or something so you know where to weld it once its cut in two.

Looks good TUFFTR!!! I would do this, but since ive already got the standard verada map reading lights but I doubt I can be bothered just for the sunnies holder.

Yeah hey bit of mucking around but they give way more light too, considering the light is like 4 times the size. looks more modern too.
but with welding and shizz i just wanted to see if it could be be done.

now i gotta think of something else to cuztomize

judging by the avatar get rid of the stocky on the front and put the number plate in the middle, love the sunnies holder tho, are they map lights or actual interior lights like vz commodore? im sure you will find another 20 things to change

yeah dw number plate will go in the middle soon and stockies are only there cause im getting the 19"s repainted and whitewalled in due time.
while i was at the wreckers i got some VY interior lights and these ones and these look way better then the VY ones. that and, well, i want to keep it all mitsu, if i put the VY ones in my roof, who knows, my roof might start rusting and rattling after a few k's lol

hey is your model originally an exec or something else? cause im wondering whether there are already wires running to it. saw some rada map lights at the wreckers today but wondered whether theyll go straight up or id have to wire them still for my tr exec. i know that there is a mounting bracket for them under the roof lining, so wiring is all im concerned about.

i can tap the wires into the existing light, is that right?

RoGuE_StreaK

Yep, just buy a pack of wire-taps from KMart et al (for ease of implementation), and tap the wire in the general vicinity of the map lights. There are two wire that run through there, one red, one red with a white stripe, can't remember off-hand which one is the desired one (constant power).

[EDIT] Indepth discussion here (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?p=803363#post803363), complete with initial mis-information provided by yours-truly!
In short, red is constant power, red-white is a ground via the door switches (only active when a door is open), and the mount provides the "constant" ground. Don't need red-white for the map light.

thanks for that. got some wire taps on hand, ill test for constant power, and the other should be the earth, right? might get onto it within a couple of weeks after all :)

Bog stock exec verada'd up :)

As Rogue said basically, but i would solder all the connections mate.
Ive had way too many crimps come loose over the years due to tugging at the wires now and then, do it once, do it right.

SO yeah for the front map lights, tap the red wire, the bracket is ground.
For the middle lights, You'll need both wires (almost plugs in) and it also earths through the bracket.
make sure you get all the brackets too!
