Hey all,

Does anyone know whether the KR radios had a 4 channel output, I've only recently added two speakers to the rear cabin but have had to kinda stooge the system a little. By stooging I mean that 'cos I've got a stock radio (2 channel output) I had to hook both front speakers to one channel and the rears to the other. Sounds alright but if the KR radios had a four channel output I might be some better sound. Any thoughts?

Cheers

The KR is a Verada so from what you're saying it should have 4 channel output, yeah? I've got a cheap one with an ignition light for $36 so I'm pretty keen to give it a go.

Sweet, I'll let you guys know how it goes. Most people have probably already removed their stock radio but did anyone else have really s*** reception? I bet there's other stuff I could check in order to fix it but I thought the radio unit itself might be the problem, although those antennas probably aren't real good. Anyone got tips on how I could check for other reception issues?

stock radio (2 channel output) I had to hook both front speakers to one channel and the rears to the other.Doesn't that mean you'll have (swap where necessary) left coming out of your [fronts], and right out of your [rears]??! Usually you would hook up the left front and left rear to the single left channel, right front and right rear to the single right channel, and possibly add a cheap 3rd-party front/rear fader on the line.

EI had 4 speakers, the XI had 6

The KS had 6

All have a security code to input prior to it working so ensure you have this

All Magna's have factory wiring for speakers to the rear as well

Rogue:
Yeah, that's right, instead of sounds travelling from left to right it travels from front to back. That doesn't bother me too much, but I can see how other people might find it annoying. If this radio I got cheap doesn't end up working out then I'll probably make the switch like you've said with the fronts and backs of each side channeled together and adding the front/rear fade.

Mad Magna:
Are the EI and XI different models of Verada? If so, didn't they have this for the KS's? Cheers for the heads up with the security code, I had no idea they'd installed that to these radios.

well i recently got a 92 TR and the radio has the worst reception. it'll work crystal clear in one place and then i move a centimetre backwards and it'll work ****ty and fuzzy. it's shocking. i can even stay in one place and it'llc hange and yeh.......
hopefully an aftermarket headunit will fix the problem...

~twiggy~ (oh and mine is a glx 5spd 4banger if dats any help?)

I have another question about the radio's in the KR verada, if you don't have the code can mitsubishi get it for you from the vin number? If you tried the code 3 times and locked it out does it come good after being off (battery disconnected) for a while?

You can get the code, proof of ownership and vin are required, some may be happy to see a receipt for the head unit and a vin.

The KR xi has double din, 2 chan the front dash and door speaker are connected together.

The ei and xi KS had different units, from memory the xi had cd, the ei cassette (correct me if i am wrong)

It's probably really obvious but what is "double din"?

double din takes up 2 spaces so you'll need the extra slot..

Think of 2 cdplayers width..

Cheers, I had known I'd lose my storage space but I can deal with that.

I might be thinking of something else, might have been to do with security computer not radio, but I'd heard that if you freeze the computer it reboots itself and the security code doesn't kick in again. Am I dreaming or is this to do with something other than a radio?

I've posted in the wanted section but I thought I'd ask here anyway 'cos I've already got it going. Does anyone have a KR radio surround including lighter, elec. windows, etc that they are not using? Keen to find one that will fit radio size of 182mm x 115mm, but will maybe attempt to hack up the surround I have if nothing comes up here or at wreckers.

Cheers.
