Hey guys, I have searched, but not much has fit excatly my questions. Its a simple one anyway.

Rang a few places today for a timing belt change in my TJ magna (3.5l). First quote was 440. SEcond place said that he dosnt take shortcuts, and will change everything, including the Tensioner, and said he cant really quote me untill the sees the car, but, I can expect up to $800 or so.

Had a nice chat with one of the mechanics when I rang him, and asked for a price. Just be belt change ws quoted at $350, when I mentioned the Tensioner, he said it was a good idea, but, they are fairly costly. He listed the benefits of getting it changed.

So basically, ill assume I need the Tensioner changed aswell as the timing belt ?

Car is going to get some work done to it over the nest year or so, cam, manifold, higher comp etc etc, so I would rather the car be as strong as possible

you can get the dacyo kit with tensioner for around the $340 mark.

from memory labour cost me about $300

Rang another mechanic, mechanic most of the family goes to, never thought he was the best, but his work has always been solid, and he seems honest, so I suppose, realy, his not that bad.

Quoted me a price of under $500 for the timing belt kit (including tensioner, I double checked). Also said he will replace a belt or two for no labour, as he has to take them off to get access to the timing belt, so why not put fresh ones in

After doing about 1000 magna timing belts I have never done the tensioner. I dont see the point.

The alternator belt will be starting to crack if its done around 100k kms and the power steering belt has a habit of snapping after being retensioned so a good thing to replace both.

Make sure the cam seals aren't leaking or have been done before. New seals will be brown. Old ones black
