Hi there, I've had this curiousity for quite some time now, so, Which non Mitsuibishi engines that have similar engine mount spacings that would go in a TF chassis? Because, I was thinking to my self, Instead of buying a new car in a bout 4 years time, i'll just get a decent engine conversion :).....The idea may or may not work but hey, if the dream will come true i'll be cheering. Reason behind this is I love the feel of the ride of my TF shell so instead of buying a whole complete car just convert the mechainics on it.

A 6G74 will fit fine. Why would you want to put anything else in there? Its like a Merc i saw on ebay, it had a 302 Windsor and a c10 in it. I wanted to slap him with a mullet.

Go for the mitsu engine code 8a80, it was a V8 that was sold with cars that also came with the 3.5 from our magnas.
they all fit. all engines. lots of them.

you could put a few hampster wheels in there - and call it a green and eco friendly (except animal welfare league may have something to say about it) and best of all - wont cost much in the way of fuel!! haha
but in all seriousness - while you obv love your TF, the amount it is going to cost to do an engine swap will be enourmous...
dont forget you will need things like
engine looms
computers
transmission
countless custom peices too - esp if you are going for something from another maker.
would prolly end up cheaper to just buy the new car in all honesty....
even though it would be uber cool if you did of course....

6G75 is 175kw, and yes, it probably will. AFAIK it is a bored and stroked 6G74.

for example...if i put a skyline engine in mi car, would it be possible if i could still use my exisiting gearbox, transmission? Oh, and will they have the same engine mount spacings?

No, No and probably No.
You are best sticking to a Mitsu engine at least.
The following engines will fit your car without needing changes to the mounts:
SOHC 24v 6G72 3L (what you have now)
SOHC 24v 6G74 3.5L (KE-KW Verada, TH-TW Magna)
DOHC 24v MIVEC 6G72 3L
Also, the SOHC 24v 6G75 from the 380 will fit, I believe theres a couple of TJ's with 6G75's in them (Greenacre Mitsibits comes to mind)
for example...if i put a skyline engine in mi car, would it be possible if i could still use my exisiting gearbox, transmission? Oh, and will they have the same engine mount spacings?
sorry you didnt get my post.
if you do a bit of reading around here you'll realise some people here have poured 10k into magnas and still aren't even considered fast compared to say a skyline with standard mods (upped boost, exhaust).
you start with a family car, and at the end of the day its still a family car. if you're after performance start saving now and in 4 years time you could easily have something luxury and fast, a mitsubishi legnum for example.

well, IMHO like u said if u had the money u can make a family car run like a sports car :)

Umm no....
why not just save up and buy a skyline if you want turbo and want to go fast?
You are driving a FWD magna its not a performance car unless you spend big big dollars on it and even then it still wont be fast enough to justify all the money spent in the long run!!

Magnas are quickish from the factory for a stock car. They respond poorly to modifying. Unless you're awesome and can fit a 6A13TT yourself don't bother. Cause you couldve bought a galant for the same price as putting one in your magna and it wouldnt be FWD.

You will notice the difference upgrading to the 3.5L engine thats for sure and a lot of ppl have done the conversion on here, although even still it wont be classified as fast, but then again its impossible to go fast on aus roads these days so end of the day does it matter if its super quick or not???
Good luck!

nope :) its reliablity, and handling and fuel efficiancy im after. besides if i want to go fast i'll just rent the local race track eg Eastern Creek :).

tell them they are genetically cloned hampsters!
im sure they will love that even more.
but yes, back to original post.
through enough money at it, and you can have whatever engine and trans combo you want / need - question is, do you really think its worth the effort and the cost that its going to include?

i noticed in your sig your car is a 3.0 and auto.
Covert it to a 3.5 and a manual, and you will think you are driving a performance car.

what if i just upgraded to a 3.5litre engine and used my exisiting tranny, ecu and gearbox?

Manuals are still a hell of a lot faster than autos.
and if you're after 'reliability, handling and fuel efficiency' from a modified car you're dreaming, no matter what car.

you could always just trade it on a TJ sports or vrx 3.5ltr 5sp?
or yeah, just chuck a 3.5ltr in your current ride. you'll deffinately feel the difference.

ill set it out for ya simple mate
a magna is decent from the factory in 3.5L +manual form
every other combination is considerably slower... even with a 3.5L + manual + supercharger its still not a quick car and its still FWD....
so in the end if you wanna go fast go buy somethin else (unless your loaded, which im guessing your not) otherwise just do an exhaust and cai and be happy with it...

I think the three best options are as follows;
6G75 (3.8L) SOHC w/ 380 5-speed Manual
6G74 (3.5L) SOHC w/ 5-Speed Manual
6G72 (3.0L) DOHC MIVEC w/ 5-speed ManualPersonally in such a light car... the 6G75 gear would be hell quick... low 14's EASY in that...Maybe even a 13...
The TE is about 200kgs lighter and the 380 box has got a shorter finaly drive. Drop that in with a 3" Zorst and CAI and watch the power... 160~170kw @ wheels because you would not have to comply with the laws that the TH~380 had to deal with..
Food for thought!

Well to be honest, my original plan from b4 i got this car was to just do an exhaust system upgrade and put rims but hey my dreams will come true one step at a time hehe sorry its a bit of topic but hey.

TF~TE...No difference. And yes it would all fit. I would use the loom from the TF but I would also buy a Haltech E6X to run the motor.. And Id use the plennum & T/B set up off the TF...Also I think you should use the TF fuel rails...
Custom Exhaust & CAI would be needed anyways...
Light car + 4.11 Final ratio in manual + Torquy 3.8L = Hella fun & quick!!

This gives me an idea :D :D off to find out how much a 6G75 is.
I dont think there is a huge different between a 3.5ltr manual and a 3.0ltr. Yes there is a difference but surely there is better things u can do for the price?
