Hi all! - long time missing!
Been busy - bought a TS V6 auto wagon off ebay - sight unseen! Got the guy to deliver it as I was too lazy to pick it up......
231,000 Km, perfect upholstery, no bits missing (well, none I can pick up from U-Pull-It).
Drove it around the block to check the gearbox, then set about to rip it apart. Dead paint, stripped to the original undercoat, and in progress of being repainted white.
QUESTION: I'm new to the TS version of ABS - twin fluid reservoirs, one in the normal spot and one behind the left headlight, and a computer behind the left tail light. How do I replace the brake fluid in both reservoirs, and how do I bleed the brakes? Anyone had experience with this job?

Never mind - found the answer in the manual. Let me know if you are interested in the answer.

I only discovered this the only day too!!! Never seen ABS like this before. I never though about how I would bleed it, and I have recently bought some brake fluid to flush the fluid when I can be bothered getting around to it. So yeh, please share :P

Well, the manual says DON'T!!!!!

The main master cylinder is bled as per usual, every 24 months, starting with the longest run.

The ABS master cylinder - behind the headlight - is not to be touched. Accoring to the manual, the ABS motor works on high pressure nitrogen and hydraulic fluid. The fluid level indicator on the reservoir is to let you know if the fluid level is ok (obviously) but if it drops below minimum you should replace the whole motor unit, rather than just topping it up!

PS The manual also warns that when removed from the vehicle, the ABS motor should not be lain on its side or turned upside down. It describes how to depressurise the unit before disposal. Consider the unit non-serviceable and BOOBY TRAPPED! LOL

A BIG THANK YOU to the original supplier of the manual. (downloaded through a link on this forum)

PPS BOO and HISS to Mitsu!
Where is this ABS motor? Which corner of the car is most likely to get damaged in an accident? Where is the ABS computer (on a wagon)? Which corner . . . . need I say more?

:doubt:

Thanks madmax, I guess that what you expect of Mitsubishi....

I thought lookign at it that it looked like normal brake fluid that go in there somehow and wasnt sure how it would when I flushed it. Guess its just same procedure as usual then!!!

P.S - I painted my brakes no long ago, and destroyed a coulple of the bleedign nipple rubber covers, obvisouly with ages they have dryed up and cracked. Has anyone seen these from supercheap or something, otherwise where else can u buy them???

Try supercheap, or do a trip to the wreckers - failing that, try an electronics store like Dick Smith and look for rubber caps used to cover exposed bolt ends in electronic projects. Any place that specialises in brake work should have them, or Mitsu itself?

Keep the dirt and water out of the bleeding nipples - if corrosion sets in they can seize and snap off.
If REALLY desperate, try a small blob of clear RTV silicon - just enough to seal the hole. Should pop right out next time you bleed the brakes.

PS I checked the fluid in the ABS master cylinder. It is as clear as brand new brake fluid. Its obviously not prone to contamination by rubber debri like the fluid in the main cylinder. Mine is as black as - time to change it methinks!
