Hi all

After some searching, I still havnt found the answer, so hopefully someone can help :)

I have a 96 TE Exec that has an intermittant aircon problem...

When you are driving it works great most of the time, stop, and the aircon stops working (fan stays on, just no cold air)... this does happen while moving too, but can be overcome sometimes by increasing the revs..

The other problem is that after running for a while (cold) that a sort of mist starts to come out of the vents..

Ive had a (quick) check of the belts to make sure they are tight and they seem to be

Any advice would be much appreciated...

Thanks

Maybe re-gas the air con? Not too costly, and its probably coming due for it anyway.

use the window? its part of having an old car, usually either the aircon doesnt work well or it makes the car run like crap

You just ultimately have to send it to the a/c specialist to have it looked at.

mist is probably because the air coming out of the vents is nice and cold. just like you want it to be!!!!!:D

Nothing wrong with the aircon in my TE

I guess check to see how if the belt looks worn, it might still be slipping, increasing the revs to make it work seems to indicate this (unless of course the clutch in the aircon is on the way out...)

My laser used to do the mist thing occasionally, IMO I think its just the cold dry air hitting the moist air in the car, might be a sign that its needs regassing (I sold the laser before I had to do that and bought the Magna...)

most user handbooks for cars, state that to be a "normal characteristic' occasionally when turning the aircon on - so yes you are right, its just the dry cold air hitting the warmer moist air in the cabin.
