is it just my car or does everyone's magna's steering feel way too light? it's OK at parking speeds, in fact it's great as very little effort is needed to turn the big steering wheel. but as you pick up speed, yes the steering feel does become a little heavier but only a little. there's so little feel that it feels pretty unsafe to take corners and even going at high speed.

ive always loved the 'light' feel in my steering!!! make the most of those 'spirited' corners :P hahhaah..

haha.. nah, but seriously, is it something you've just noticed? if so, perhaps you never noticed it when you first got the car. :D

but yer, mine is fairly light response, and i like it!

I noticed this when I first drove my parents TP. Didn't like it one bit. TF felt good. Probably lighter than some but don't know. They're supposed to be pretty dead around centre. I found a VY pretty ordinary as it would steer heaps when at speed. Had to be careful as I wasn't used to it.

from what i've read the th's are lighter than the others and copped some crap from a few journo's for it. I'd have to agree with them, it absolutely annoys me. total lack of feeling.

Ah mine sucks...
i drove my friends 1982 honda accord and it has hell good power steering... as in you throw the wheel and it spins!!! (ok kinda dangerous when you think about it)

But mines hell stiff and hard.... a lot harder than the 96 2.8 4 cyl magna i took for a drive... that cars stearing was light as!!

My tf .. the power stearing Does work... but its stiff at least

I reckon the steering in my TJ has no feel to it compared to my TR. In my TR i felt like i could feel the road, TJ just sort turns but yeh, doesnt feel like im directly linked with the wheels/road

Slowly getting used to it now

yeah i got a TH it's quite light indeed and gets lighter the further you turn the wheel. but i like it specially when i'm driving hard thru moutain roads and don't want to have to fight with the wheel to turn...

is there anyway to adjust how tight your Power steering is?

naa i've noticed it since i got the car. but you know you get used to it after driving it for a while. but everytime after a long holiday and you come back and drive the car, the darn thing's weaknesses just show through and through. one thing i've never complained abt is the creamy smooth V6... sluuuuuuuurrrrrrrrp!!!

i got to drive a rented holden commodore lumina. it's actually pretty comfy! bumps absorbed pretty well, pretty quiet and smooth (although not as smooth as my V6  ). very ahead of the magna in terms of ride refinement and not to mention the steering feel is much much better.

Well my steering is so light I reckon it caused my accident I had a while ago. The slightest twitch on a wet road can send the car on bit of a shake which is unnerving....Its the vaguest feel ive come across. Its very light yet not very responsive :?

If you don't like the light feel go to a power steering shop and ask them to change it.

Mazdas have the light steering feel and all you have to do is back the line pressure offa alittle and it adds weight to the steering feel.

mitsubishi point out they have re-valved the power streering for less assistance on the latest model as part of why its not just a cosmetic new model.
I dont know how much re-valvig costs, but changing the pulley to a larger one on the steering pump would achieve the same thing, less assistance and tighter feel and could be acheaper option if the light feel really bothers you.
I had 2.6 TR previously and the feel was much better than my current TF. I think its due to the car being lighter and having a bit bigger steering wheel.
I think the magna steering is great on fast twisty roads compared to alot of others including commo and falcon, and the lightness at slower speeds is good for doing everything like drink coffe, smoke, with one hand except of course talk on a mobile that none of us are dangerous enough to do.

the gen3 magna's are reknown for having light and fairly "crap" steering feel... its not bad, its just that there is better...

different tires and wheel settings will change this... i notice it every time i get new tires and get the wheels re-aligned etc!!

My TH is a bit Stiff at the best of times, but now it's lightening down a bit, since getting 2 new Front tyres, but for a while b4 them it's been a bit heavy

Mines really light as well. But i love it. I drive like a yank, hand resting on the bottom of the wheel, no effort, auto shifting gears for me and the lazy but torquey v6 does the cruising 8) 8) 8) 8)

Why would you want heavy steering in a big family car anyway? :doubt:

Be laaaaazzzzyyyyy O:)
