Simple question, yet 2 hours on Google didn't return a single good result. If I remove my rocker cover, is there any chance i'll be able to just put it back on again afterward, or will I need to reseal it with fresh sealant? Just want to have a look and see if I can find the source of the tapping but need it back on the road fairly quickly afterward.
For the record it's slowly going to hell, water pump has a slow leak, outer CV boot split, couple of trolley dents in both rear panels  and the paint has faded to almost nothing on the roof. Gotta love the TR series! (Or not.)
Sorry if this sounds like a real weak question, but it is, i'm not new to cars but i'm as new as it gets when it comes to working inside engines. lol More suited to car electrical atm.
Cheers.

Nah you'll need to use a new gasket mate + goo

Alright, thanks. I'll wait until service time then.
Just spent a few minutes trying to get the fuel door open after it apparently jammed at the servo, when we got it back here I couldn't find anything wrong with the filler door release at all. I'll admit the "sell it and buy a V6" method is really tempting at the moment. lol If one turns up at a good price, i'll go for it, otherwise i'll just pick up a parts car and get to work.

rocker cover can be taken on and off, never used sealant, its got 2 bolts in the top of it to take it off and just has a rubber seal, if ur that paranoid go buy a seal for about 20 bucks from repco. Never had any issues and have taken them off heaps of times when adjusting my tappets on the old sigma i used 2 have.

For one that could be 40K old i would just assume that once the seal is broken it wont seal properly again.
Although some people have more luck then others, i.e. you said youve done it before and its fine.
weird, but i would replace it just to be sure

Depends what the old gaskets like. If its solid as a rock, replace... or it'll piss.

Most top rocker gaskets are rubber, dont always have to replace them. they do tend to go hard and will crack. so be careful.
TBH it soundslike it needs a bit of work so a little oil seepage wont hurt, if ya know what i mean....

lmao, it wont hurt buying a $10 gasket either.

Right, well i'll have to book it in for a service then. I'm guessing new lifters are the go. In addition it needs a new water pump and the CV boots repaired or joints replaced, they're not knocking yet. Not to mention the collapsed engine mounts. I am thinking of doing these at home whenever possible, god knows how much it'll cost but I imagine it won't be cheap, might make a few calls tomorrow.
In addition the bodywork has trolley dents on the rear drivers panel, and the wheel arch has been badly scraped on the rear passenger side panel. I'd like to just replace these with ones from a wreckers car but I have no idea how to get them off or if they can even be removed at all, otherwise a crash repairer will have to tap it back out. If anyone could shed some light on that it would be very much appreciated.
I am keeping an eye on the pricing of local second gen V6's in SA, but at the moment it looks like they're well in excess of $1000 that I just don't have lying around. Good news is that if I can do all of the above to the current Magna, it'll be all good to go! lol
