I have an AWD Verada that I fitted new tyre to about 6mths ago...
On the way home from work tonight I got run off the road and slammed into a gutter taking a large chunk out of the tyre and stuffing the rim.....
My question is I have done 10000 kays on the tyres......when I got the new tyres the tyre bloke said it is always important to replace all tyres at the same time on an AWD car.
Now if I get a new rim and new tyre what effect will it have or do I have to get 4 new tyres????
cheers

first off - WELCOME!
seeing as you havnt done *too many* kays on that set of tyres allready, you should be right with the putting a new tyre on a new rim and sticking it on the car.
saying that - have you thought about putting the spare on (im assuming its the same type / size etc as the rest of the car) on the front, with the new rim & tyre, and putting the old good front one in the boot as a spare?
(if that makes sence)
pics of your ride too!

Thanks for the quick reply..
I have a late model KW Verada that came from factory with a nice steel wheel in the boot.
I also put Yokohama tyres on and the spare is the Grid II type so will have to get a new tyre and new rim.......not happy....

A shame, the KL came with 5 identical rims/tyres
I've had to consider something like this already, but I had a lot more k's on the tyres. At 10k hopefully the yokies aren't worn enough to cause a problem, but it is the diffs that work on all four wheels having the same rolling radius that is the issue, how much variance they allow for I have no idea.

thats what they will tell you to sell you 4 tyres...
common belief is to replace all 4 tyres
if you had locked or no centre diffs then maybe
but the car runs an open front diff and loose ctr and rear diffs
replacing a slightly worn tyre with the same tyre but new is no problem...
my awd had 2 tyred replaced @ 60xxx km at the mitsu dealer where it was sold from... i brought the car at 95xxxkm i researched the history of it, and i asked the service manager about it at the dealer and he said it's fine to do so...
just a piont to note the rolling diameter wouldnt be out by more than a few mm by using a slightly worn tyre, no the diffs still work, it may differ is the car had a mechanical lsd fitted by wearing out the friction plates etc... but the car has a 1 way fluid type lsd...
its fine
just let the subaru suckers be conned into gettin 4 new tyres
small point to note too.. i drove approx 1000km with 3 20" wheels and 1 16" factory spare when i busted a tyre.... no issues!!!

Thats good to hear. I've been worried about this, as my front two are much newer than the backs. Wasn't sure what to do

Even my KH did, why does the KW have a steel one? Was it optional?

That's interesting...
I've been wondering lately what happens when I get a flat on my 19s - but my stock spare 17" is virtually the same rolling diameter with a higher profile tyre.
Should be OK then.

G'day,
From December 2004 the TW / KW 's all got a steel wheel as spare, same size & diameter as the alloy wheels. Cost cutting? But that was a little "*" note on the spec sheet I got from Mitsubisihi. Not happy  as it is impossible to get a TW VRX AWD 7 spoke alloy as a spare. Least it is better the the space saver wheel or a can of goop.
Have a good one!!
