maybe thermal overload?

should have brought my response mono never even gets more than warm to the touch mounted under the seat with no airflow runing @ 1ohm hammering it on a 45deg day... thats digital for ya though

Your playing your fully sick sub to loud bro and causing the coil to melt up. Either that or you reached the maximum excursion and snapped a tinsel lead ( although most or woven into the spider these days ).

1200W sub.. sound like you been shopping at JB and got a Sony 12inch...

You sure you dont have a C400? They are 1200W max and would be perfect at 200WRMS@ 4ohm for the kenwood. It does make 400WRMS @2ohm.

The coustic amp are usually ok. They always make a fair bit more power than stated on the spec sheets. Personally I would burn that kenwood sub. If you are after cheap thrills, look at JBL or Cadence, at least they have some decent build quality for the price.

I'm going to say that your amp cooked your sub.. and your toolbox didn't help.

I've never had any problems with either of my coustic amps, they really whoop the llama's ass. Go JBL :)

i would haver to join the amp cooked the sub ..............how were you running it in bridged mode as look at the power figure's 200w sub running of a 800w mono block mmmmmm there's half ya prob where was ya gain turned up to ? these are the thing's u should at

The gains where probably turned up to high, but it was probably a fryed sub due to clipping. As I said, the 1200W mono only has around 200WRMS @4ohm / 400WRMS @2ohm. It never fails to annoy me how many sets ups are tuned using +6db bass boost from "professional installers".

Got a multi-meter or got access to one?

Measure the resistance across the terminals of the sub.
If it's less than 4Ohms (eg. 1Ohm) then she's quite clearly gone closed circuit somewhere in the voice coil. If it's much greater than 4Ohms then there's an abnormally high resistance element somewhere in there.

I diagnosed my faulty sub (an MTX 250WRMS) using this when the Clarion amp driving it was cycling on and off constantly. I thought the amp was dead / dieing (Hence the power-cycling). Turns out that pushing a 1Ohm load on a 4Ohm bridge was just a bit too hard for it. Dropped it out of the bridge and ran off just one chanel and it ran fine for several more months, just a bit more quiet than it was before. :)
