perhaps theirs already wiring to tap into the boot, anybody know?

...well apart from the power that goes to the antenna, tail lights & trailer light extension I don't think theres anything else in my wagon. Don't know if there's enough power for your fridge goin thru the trailer light cable but if there was it'd be the easiest place to start i reckon.

I'd run it straight from the battery like it's for an amp, with it's own fuse. These fridges can draw a hell of a lot of power. The ones you see fitted factory in most wagons isn't even real flash. but worth doing to have a fridge on board.

I would definatly run your own cable. 3mm^2 off a ign relay probably pulled from your cigar fuse under the dash already.

Cigi hey, can't you spell cigarette lol

recon this would cause problems with a warrantee?

yeah, propper way would be to run fused cabels, probably go 5mm 20amp cabeling, run it through a relay to turn it on and off from something accessable.

probs. if something went wrong they could claim that you ****ed around with your car so its your fault.
BUT its prob just as bad a running amp power to your boot under warranty.

If it's for a fridge, doubtful you'd want to switch it with the ignition; you'd want to be able to supply power to the fridge at all times.

That said, would probably be a good idea to have a console switch somewhere to trigger a relay for it; don't just put a switch inline.

I was looking at doing this to power my laptop and video receiver when I'm out in the surf, but it got put off when I had trouble with the video side of things.

I think you could do it professionally enough that they would never notice. Take the source from within the fuse box after a main fuse and either run an inline fuse or run it off the original cigar fuse like I said.

I have had a customers car have a warrenty repair on the gearbox even know the car runs a complete aftermarket ECU. It is well hidden and very tidy though which is real point.

That would suck the battery pretty quick though if you have it on without the engine running.

I have done this in my KH. I run a 35L absorption fridge mainly for camping. Just pulled out the ash tray and soldered on a new lead 20amp cable and ran it to the boot. I spliced off that and mounted another 2 sockets under the drivers seat for DVD and GPS. Works fine but I would rather have it relayed and running off the battery.

Dont tap directly into the battery because it will drain it fairly fast. I toyed with the idea of solar panel trickle charging the battery for charging but gave up on the idea when I researched the price of solar panels and went a fridge that does 12/240V and gas.

The cigarette lighter is rated at 15 amp I think but the wiring is pretty average.

sounds like a good idea, id be interested to see how you go, ive been using an invertor off my normal cigarette lighter up the front to power camping gear-might even be an idea to visit a 4WD forum they are always doing this sort of thing (jax seems to have the know though)

keep us posted mate...

I've put two of these in http://www.rvdirect.com.au/?Nav=Pdt&product_id=14701&category_id=4&sub_category_id=722&PageID=8&wp=8 The manufacturer's site is here; http://www.sutars.se/prods.htm

One in the back of our wagon (for a 3 way fridge) and one in passenger's footwell for iPod.

Tapped back of cig lighter, ran cable down under centre console and under the carpet and rear seat.

Pic in this thread: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36582

I only wanted it on when the engine os running, so it's OK the socket is dead with the ignition off.

I bought a double adapter for the Cigi lighter plug from one of those cheap shops. I have a decent fridge it heats and cools and all I did was splice the lead into one of the plugs. It's worked all last summer and so far this summer daily 8-10 hours a day non stop without fail. The original lead is long enough to reach the back section of my wagon although my fridge I need to be at arms length on the front LH floor.

I just used an unfurled coathanger (a strong one!) to poke the wire through under the carpet (with the wire taped onto end of coathanger...)

My 3 way is 34l, so you'll be fine. I used 4mm auto wire (not huge but bigger than stock wiring). I put in a self tapper near the rear socket for an earth.

Rear seat bottom and wagon trip is pretty easy to take out. Have fun :-)

PS there's pretty much only one place where it will fit (depth wise). Make sure you mark it out carefully before you use a drill!
