How hard is it to replace a fuel pump in a 97 te magna? and should I stick with genuine Mitsi pump or go for an aftermarket one?

Get a generic replacement part or try a wreckers for a low km jobby.

It is an easy replacement, but time consuming if you have to remove the tank. Not sure but either way it is just a few bolts and a plug or two.

Depends if it is a sedan or a wagon

if its a sedan

1 Release the fuel pressure at the engine there is a metal fitting at the firewall near the T/B undo this to release the pressure...even sitting over night there is still some.....

2 Remove the bottom of the rear seat (2 clips)

3 There is a plain metal plate held down with 4 screws under which is the fuel pump/gauge remove this and remove the fuel hoses(need a special tool but use neddle nose pliers dont damage the plug.....) (push plug on sqeeze plug with pliers at the end and pull off) Make sure you do No1 or you will be covered in fuel....

4 Undo the 6 nuts retaining the pump unit and remove from tank....

5 Replace with new or used pump......Any pump will work TE-TW(except AWD) have used a TH pump on mums TJ and have had no drama's

As for wagon the tank needs to be removed so the pump can be changed...as it sits vertical at the back of the tank....

Hope this helps

Craig.....

I've got a stock standard one out of a low klm car if you would like it. Removed when I fitted a walbro pump. PM me for details...
