i knew of the illegalities of these lights for a while but they look so good,
http://www.imagehost.ro/thumbnail.php/24083706479832125c656.jpg (http://www.imagehost.ro/viewer.php?img=24083706479832125c656)

Would they still be defectable if i somehow i cut out my old light's reflecter and replaced the altezza's?
Is it defectable because it doesnt reflect red or is it that it reflects white and the only color allowed is red?
would adding a pair of red reflectors underneth the light make it in-defectable? or would i have to remove the white reflector?

Edit: this is the info i have found so far

ROAD TRAFFIC (VEHICLE STANDARDS) RULES 2002 - REG 103

Rear reflectors

103 . Rear reflectors

(1) A motor vehicle with 4 or more wheels and a trailer must have a rear-facing red reflector towards each side of its rear.

(2) A motor bike, a sidecar attached to a motor bike, and a motor trike, must have a rear-facing red reflector.

(3) The centre of each reflector must be —

(a) at the same height above ground level; and
(b) not over 1.5 m above ground level.
(4) However, subrule (3) does not apply to a reflector fitted to a sidecar attached to a motor bike.

(5) A reflector fitted to a motor vehicle with 4 or more wheels or to a trailer must not be over 400 mm from the nearer side of the vehicle.

(6) A vehicle fitted with rear-facing red reflectors in accordance with subrule (1) or (2) may be fitted with additional red reflectors at any height above ground level or at any distance from the side of the vehicle.

ill think you will hit a snag with the ADR rulings, afaik those lights arent ADR approved hence why they are illegal and you wont get insurance payout if you have them on the car.

you should be right buddy. i got defected for these about a year ago, cop said just get some type of adhesive and a rear reflector, put over the white one and there wouldnt be a problem. ended up saying its not the brake lights and blinkers etc that r the problem its the white reflector and when i asked if i could put a red reflector elsewhere he said no because the position of the red reflector has to be ADR approved which they are...this is in nsw anyway

Strictly speaking, unless you are using a 100% ADR approved/certified set of lights, you can get done.

Don't forget though, it's not just the police; insurance mobs will sometimes try everything to get out of paying a claim, and if you are rear-ended the other driver's insurance may bust out the "non-ADR light" argument, meaning you get diddly-squat, as your illegal modification is deemed to be the cause of the accident.

Would be interesting to see if the ADR compliance covers the light as a whole, or whether it is the separate components (brake, indicator, etc). Might be able to create new ADR-approved lights by putting together just the ADR-approved components, leaving the rest of the design up to you?

from what i know ADR rules apply to ALL states. Some states may have extra rules but ADR is the minimum that must be met by all states. checking vic roads standards when i get home. just thought of this... what if i go to a window tint place and get them to tint the reflector part with red? the altezza reflector is basicly the same just without the red tint in the plastic.

exactly. as the cop said to me, i use an orange globe that looks 80% similar colour to stocko ones, and use a red globe for the brakes...they just appear a tad lighter in their colours. beyond that i cant see why they'd be illegal. worse comes to worse could always carry a spare stocko set around lol

while driveing home from work i noticed a 1989 Toyota Lexen.... with WHITE reflectors

Went around to a few places today and i think i will get some "Brush on Lens & Bulb Dye" from Autobahn for $12.00 and just paint the reflector.

Haha yeah, I think they've faded to white due to typical Holden quality...
