Hi all! thanks for your feedback on the color coding, ive finished that and its turned out pretty good, for a first time effort!
Now, im color coding the interior! Ive done the center console, but now im doing the dash! Ive got the air vent strip out from the front of the dash, and the outer casing panel for the "instrument" box!
what I need help with is this... I want to avoid taking the dash off if i can, but im trying to get to the clear cover of the instrument box (tacho, speedo housing etc etc) off... how does the "trip counter reset rod" come off? cos i cant get the outer plastic face off with it on there...
any help will be appreciated, ive got the dash unbolted, but if i can avoid taking it off, would be a great help, cos im a one man (and no dog) DIY noob lol
thanks in advance!

Taking the cluster out is easy, takes about 1 minute, can leave steering wheel on. Once you have removed the cluster out of the car, the clear plastic cover just simply comes off with a few tabs at the back, small flat head screw driver helps a bit. Its quiete easy, no need to take the reset rod out? Just mask it up if you dont want it painted? Have had no dramas doing this, and have taken cluster out many times.
Are you colour coding with your exterior colour? Can get customs cans made up for about 20 bucks at any paint shop, just need your paint code.

yeah ive realised after a bit of pushing i could get it out without the dash coming off, but i guess it was good practice taking all the screws out for a time when i do need it! Yeap im using the same color as the exterior, and ive got a couple of cans too =) thanks. I havent taken the cluster? all the way out yet, i was trying to take the clear cover off with it sitting in there... and it didnt look like the tip of the reset rod would fit through the hole, but i guess i may be wrong, i thought there maybe a trick to it lol
thanks for the reply mate, ill post some pics of the car up one im done =)

Nah, that's mostly just the wiring for the cluster lights.
well, i pulled the rod firmly, several times in a few mins even... lol but to no avail!!! the rod wouldnt come out, but not to be outdone by a little piece of plastic... i just cut the lil knob off the bl*%&dy thing lol and off slide the plastic face no worries :D as for a replacement knob, im goin to customize the end of my rod (trip meter rod that is) with a little football (soccer) or something like that, maybe even a skull!
I painted the lining around the dials white (matt) and i actually like the luminous green that it comes up as at night! its amazing how much the black colour it is standard absorbs the light!
anyways, i worked on my latest mod after work today! i made some eyelids... the materials i have only allowed me to make half size lids, but they came up pretty well, still need to color code them, but they look alright (i think) oh btw, the materials i used... was the vegie tray out of the bottom of my old fridge lol i can feel some of you cringing saying OMG what is this guy doing... but im a thinker lol and they look schmick as!!! proper made for the job, with the plastic already moulded at a perfect angle... posting pics soon, when i finish it!
oh and i went to buy a plate cover for the front today, and they were like 30 bux, for one!! so i saved some money, and went to cash converters, bought a polished alloy picture frame for 4 bux, and cut it to size!!! ofcourse you dont get the plastic... but then again i did have some of my vegie tray left over haha nice one, essay done!
peace

yeah i was yankin it pretty hard mate.... then my GF came in and told me to cut it out... i mean off!!! :bowrofl: but yeah i wasnt goin to let it get in the way of me doin my thing!!!
When i get my hands on a digicam and its a nice day, ill take some pics of all the mods and post them up, but heres a (bad) phone one of my "mini" eyelids! they look alright, i think theyd be better full, but i dint have a choice, my vegie tray... just wasnt big enuf lol
i was goin to modify my headlights to look like para's but when i read about having to put the lights in the oven?!?... im not a cook at the best of times, so yeah, maybe not lol ... para's look tough i like em, but cannot afford right now...
thanks, peace
