howdy everyone its nice to see there are more people out there that love magna's as much as i do ,now my problem is i am looking at up grading my seats [they are stock at the moment] i am only doing it to make it look a lot better aesthetically, now i know a lot of magna men shun this idea as its basically turning my magna into a bitsa, but i was looking at wrx seats[purely for the look], now what i would like to know do any of you agree that it would look better or should i just keep my original seats or just get some sports seats and retrim them[i'm a motor trimmer] any help would be appreciated also should i retrim my original steering wheel or get a sports steering wheel please help i am open to all suggestions sorry for keeping this loooooong
it all comes down to personal taste, some ppl will say "yeah bucket seats will look awesome" other's will hate the idea.
If you're specifically gonna get seats that are made by another manufacturer, you need to make sure they fit before you get them. You dont need to buy specific WRX seats as Autobarn sells various types of bucket seats in different styles/colours which have a generic fit. so chances are those will fit your car better.
BUT
since you're a motor trimmer yourself, getting your current seats re done in a nice material or even leather will probably look better. Personally, i really like the current seats as a magna/verada isn't mean to be a sports car, i tried to keep mine classy.

I guess it comes down to personal taste.
If you want to stick with Mitsu/Magna then I'd look at retrimming your seats or maybe looking at some of the other Mitsu seats like Ralliart or Lancer EVO seats.
But if you don't mind cross breeding, then go seat shopping. Walk around a few wreckers and car yards, look at (and SIT IN) other seats until you find some you like. Then start the measuring process, etc.
I remember my first car, a HQ Holden. I ended up fitting some early Commodore SLE or Calais seats in it. Much better seats - never regretted it.
Also may be wise to check out legalities with local authorities - wouldn't want any seat mods/swaps to be illegal/unsafe.
At least being an auto trimmer - you have a step up (skill & tool wise) on the rest of us.
Look forward to hearing/seeing more about this Magna.
whats a motor trimmer asking US about what would look good for? :D
anyway , i would prefer luxury over sporty (magna wise anyway) so i would go for a leather re trim (probably cheap as if you're doing it yourself) over sporty bucket seats or whatever.
unles you race your car that is...

He may have the skills but maybe not the Magna experience?
Someone here may have tried to fit WRX seats in a Magna before - who knows ?

(oh, and I think there's some leather covers available on ebay too).

Firstly welcome :)
Secondly, a motor trimmer eh? That could be useful .....
Thirdly, 3rd gen Magna seats take a lot of beating in terms of comfort and support. I'd be wary of swapping to anything that will make it feel like you are driving a go-cart in terms of bump comfort. That said, I have installed Recaros (the real deal, not the cheap knock offs) in previous cars and they add a level of comfort another notch up on anything else. They also look great without screaming "ricer". In fact they are so good I am typing this note to you from my purple and silver leather office Recaro I have, which I sit on all day long and never get numb bum :D

thankyou thats why i have asked you guys, i got my trade through prestige motorworks so i am used to working on beema's,mercs and jags thats why i love the look of my magna
and secondly i used to have a hq with a 9 inch ford diff and the holden club wouldnt allow me to join as it had ford parts on her and finally whats wrong with other peoples opinion i would rather people saying hey this would cool rather than hey that looks like crap [i ment no offense by that either mate]

Don't you have to be careful from the engineering perspective with changing seats? I think swapping in seats from other cars may require an engineer's certificate?

Good point... I assumed this was the case if the rails had to be (re)fabricated...

yeah i have seen an engineer and aparently you can put other seats in there but there has to be a steel plate under each bolt[under the car] at least 10mm thick thats what i was told anyway

you should jsut be able to use the original seat frame and remould new foam etc to give it a bucket feel and posture about it, thats my plan in the not to distant future anyways

I think you'll find most aftermarket seats with new rails are not engineered (crash testing etc). Not to say you cant make them safer, just it wont necessarily be legit. Keep this in mind.

I say get some electric verada seats.... strip em... take a mould of a wrx seat. and then form up new foam with that. no need to modify the rails. no need for engineers cert...
even if you have to change the metal frame inside the seat to create a skeleton to suit your needs?
