How much should it cost for a Piggy back such as the Haltech Interceptor cost be be installed & Tuned?

Ive recently just got a quote of $220 for the install & $660 for the tune...AND IM SUPPLYING!!

How does this sound? I thought it sounded very exxy...

Alex

Sounds more than average.

I've seen tunes cost $500 alone...

Sounds about right, its not a cheap game to play.

Fiddly to install (getting the magna ECU out and having enough wires to play with is fun)

Tune - based on whatever their dyno rate is X hours to tune.

tonba your in newy right? where are you getting it done at?

The install seems about right but the tune is a little bit high. Spiro at autotech in Granville did the tune for my old car for around the $400 mark from memory.

I was recently quoted $650 for install and tune of my second-hand Emanage, from a very reputable Sydney workshop. So your quote of $880 seems a bit over the top...since we are talking about piggybacks, I'm assuming the work involved is much the same for either the Emanage or Haltech.

Interestingly the same place quoted me $500 about a year ago, as did another reputable Sydney workshop. Perhaps this reflects a trend in workshops charging more for install/dyno time?

$660 seems a bit much for just tuning a piggyback...MUCH less tuning than a replacement ECU.

Are you in Sydney Alex? Perhaps prices vary wildly outside of Sydney? Who quoted you that? Feel free to PM me if you wanto keep vendor names out of this thread.

Ive also e-mailed a few more workshops and I am waiting for a reply...

Was expecting around $500~600 fitted and tuned...

the usual go is around $100/hr for dyno time....if you're going full stand-alone obviously your first tune will be most expensive as everything needs to be setup in the ecu.....after that if it needs tweaking at a later stage shouldnt be more than 100. a mate recently paid around $350 for a first full tune on a microtech ecu....for a piggy back u'd think it'd be cheaper for a first tune than a full-standalone as all the startup/warmup/idle and basic load maps are there in the factory ecu...

Thats what I would have thought...

I got a quote of $1280 off the same mob for a fit & tune of a E6x/E11V2

Anyone Else know any workshops in the newcastle to sydney area?

The first mob was $946.00 for the fitting, tuning and before & after dynos...

RX engineering are near Newcastle and seem to have a good reputation. Though be warned they are often knee-deep in big rotary projects, and may not too interested in your job. When Ian contacted them about dynoing the manifold there, they didn't seem very interested.

If they wan't to charge you more for "before and after dynos" they're full of ****. They'll do a baseline run anyway before they start tuning it, and obviously they'll do a run on the final tune. The only difference between getting a "before and after" printout and not getting one is that they save the first and last runs, overlay them, and hit print.

there is a Microtech place just around the corner from RX engineering in Thornton, there is also a dyno place just around the corner from that, near the carwash Alex.

The mob at turbo technics seems pritty keen to do it.

He originally gave me a quote of $780 and I said that i thought it was unreasonable, and said it should be not more then $500-$600, and he agreeed with me, so he said he will charge NO MORE then $550 for the install and tune. And if it costs less, he wil charge less..

Alex

he obviously didn't really want to do it in the first place Alex.

he obviously didn't really want to do it in the first place Alex.

Perhaps, But he did say it was new ground to him (doing a magna) and he quoted higher to 'cover all bases'.

After he agreed with my estimated cost, he then went on to say he will cover the cost if it goes over $550. ($300 for fitting and $240 for tuning @ $120 pero hour)

If he REALLY didnt want to do it, I guess he could have stood by his original quote?

Besides, I will get it retuned else where when I slap on some Extractors & Manafold...

What sort of power should I expect at the wheels w/ RPW Race Extractors & Inlet Manafold? 150kw?

a stock ralliart gets 130ish so 150 should be pretty spot on

I just read somewhere that TZABOY was making 160kW @ Wheels with the following;

Pacemakers
2.5" mandrel bent exhaust
Flowed T/B
Intake Manafold
Unichip160kW sounds quick, I wouldnt mind some of that action.. :P

As has been said before don't get caught up in the dyno numbers. As long as the before and after numbers and graph look right then thats all that counts.

TZABOY's 160kW could be less or more on the dyno you are getting tuned on (not to mention the various other factors that come into play). Dyno's are great tuning tools and are fun to have comps on, but in the end they don't paint the clearest picture when comparing figures from various Dynos in differing conditions. :)

Hmmm... I guess so. Im just really looking forward to a good figure / improved drivablity & better fuel ecconomy..

dont quote me alex, it made 159 on one dyno, then i took it to autosalon and it made 140. use WSID as a guide to how much difference it makes to your car. your car isnt going for any dyno awards so that figure doesnt matter, just look for a before and after and if you gain 10% on whatever u started at then it was worth it
