View Full Version : Wheel ideas? (KF Xi slight lowering)

Hey all, I'm intersted in getting some ideas for what wheels I should / could put onto my car.

It's currently got Speedy "Spyder Gold" 17s on it and I'm thinking I'll probably stick with something 17" or maybe (if the price is right), push it up to 18s.

My problem with the current one is that (to me) they look too ricer.

I personally like the less "sporty" more "classy" wheels as I feel they go better on the Verada.

A few rules that I have in mind:
Not Chrome!
A little bit of chrome is ok as it accentuates the pre-existing chrome (door trim, handles etc) but the full chrome wheels just don't do it for me.

Not too hard to clean (not a million little spokes or slots that'll be virtually impossible for me to wash)

Not too expensive. While I'd love to buy the best, most gorgeous, lightweight wheels money can buy, I'm a bit pov' so there's not a chance I can afford it (let alone the regular replacement of rubber if they're too big)

I've started trawling through some of the galleries to see ones I like the look of and there have been a few, but I would really like to get some advice on it.

Any comments or recommendations people might have on wheels to suit would be enormously appreciated. If you are able to provide a link to the pic, I'm able to do photoshop it onto the car reasonably well, but really I'm just after a few ideas.

Thanks a bunch in advance. :)

Here's what it looks like now (if you're bored and a photochopper, feel free to click the image for the original larger one and chop off that):

Thankyou.

Your profile cites those as "18" IB Racing Wheels".

What was their specific model?
I'm just hoping to get a good pic to shop onto mine and see what I think.

Thanks again. :)

First of all, whats your Budget?
Its not much use showing you wheels if you cant afford them anyway.

In my case, I have just bought new 18" wheels, they costed me $1600 all up.
For decent 18" wheels + tyres expect to pay $1500 - $2000.
Ofcourse you can go even more expensive if you wish, but judging by your post I guess your not after that.

True that. :)

I'm probably targetting around the $1600 - $1700 mark. I might go a bit higher if the wheel is "just right" for me. At the moment the budget doesn't exist at all. I'll admit I'm very big on thinking out such decisions long and hard. It took me almost 12 months of looking before I bought the rims on my previous car. (http://www.adam.com.au/mjd26/car/)

Once I saw those rims up near the car, it didn't take long at all (I think it was about 45 seconds). But I look and look and look and eventually spot one I like and buy it.

I'm kind of expecting that to happen again because I think I will be even pickier with the Verada than I was with my old Sonata.

Mine (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showpost.php?p=722497&postcount=17)

17" Koya's $1500 with toyo rubber from keith 4 wheels in slacks creek.

I personally can't stand chrome rims either.

Cool, thanks.
Here's all my options so far:

So far I actually think my favourite is #3 (the unknown one) this one I spotted in another thread previously. Only problem being I forgot to note down who it was and I have no idea what they are. Hopefully someone might recognise their rims.

18x8 Bboss elenors with goodyear eagle F1's a tad pricey at 2440 however they can be brought at less then 2k if you choose a different tyre aka maxxis or something like that.

Hey all, I'm intersted in getting some ideas for what wheels I should / could put onto my car.
How about AU Racing 154 machine faced rims? 18" x 7.5" are the dimensions.
Got them with Maxxis MA-V1 rubber for $1700 from Bob Jane T Mart.
Good cross between sporty and classy wheels i reckon

EDIT: I just saw your previous post with links to the photochops. It already has a photochop of my rims on your car.

I have 18" RJR Linears on my KF Ei Verada - same colour as yours too...

Cost me $1600 over 12 months interest free from Bob Jane.

These cost me $500:

Diablo Racing 18's, not sure how much brand new but 2nd hand is always a cheaper option.

Or these:

Another photo:

They are HP Design 18's. You can get these in your price range.

I know you said you weren't a fan of chrome, but they do actually look pretty good on the Verada's.

Thanks for all the input thus far people, it's very good and giving me some good thinking points.
Gotta say I do like those $500 bargain basement ones you got there, that was an awesome deal. :)
I wonder if I'll get lucky and find someone selling some suitable wheels second hand some time soon.

Yep, they were a nice wheel and changed the entire look of that Verada, that whole car ended up selling on ebay for $1500!!

The thing I have found with wheels on the Verada's is that a simple wheel seems to look the best. I had 19's on the gold one when i got rid of it and it looked unbelievable, justa nice simple wheel:

Took me some effort but I finally found them.
Diablo "Racer", not "racing" :P lol

But yes; so far these Diablo Racer 18's are my favourite.
I am a big fan of the flat face on them, I think it suits the car better.

Perhaps I should add "no excessive dishing or projection" to my rule list. Flat faces are good.

Thinking maybe something like the Racer's but with a machined / brushed face could look pretty decent. Although the Racer are perhaps the only set of chromes I've ever actually liked.

Just had a bit of a browse through this quite nice page here:
http://www.tempetyres.com.au/products.asp?index=18+Inch+Packages+-+Shadow%2FSilver%2FGold
These guys seem to have really awesome prices on new wheels fitted.
Looking down that page I've picked a few which I really like the look of.
From the top of the page down:
Lenso Elegance
Lenso Speed Six (maybe)
Akuma N-06 Black (I think these are NICE!)
Diablo Racer Silver (as above) (Also, I think the white ones look hideous)
KSpeed Burnout
KSpeed Shallen

That's the sort of things that have so far caught my eye as things I think I might like to put on my car.

I would love to score a set of one of the above (or similar looking to any of them) second hand.

I shall keep looking and bide my time. I might just get lucky.

I'm in no rush. While I don't really *like* the ones that are on it, I dont completely hate them. :)

i've mentioned those akumas a few times, would be really curious to see them on a magna!

dont take the given prices as gospel, these are fitted with lousy tyres (cheap nankangs), expect to pay a few hundred more for something decent :)

There's only one way to find out! (Without actually going out and buying them that is):
Photochop section! (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?p=826650#post826650)

And thanks for the advice on tyres.
While we're at it, perhaps we might compile a list of tyres in vague order of preference?
I know there are good tyres and there are bad tyres, but it's always escaped me which are which and what sort of ordering they're in.

Back on thread now....

They were a set of custom King Springs, it looked unbelievable sitting at that height, wasn't super practicable, but meh.

And Nankangs aren't that bad, you will find the handling limits of a fwd magna before you find the adhesion limits of a nankang tyre.

I'd love to get some opinions on this look below. I'm liking it, but I don't know if it's just me being weird and if maybe it really looks terrible. The rims are actually Ford Tickford rims off an AUIII XR8, I haven't bought them yet, but I'm seriously considering it. They're 17" rims and have been shopped on at that diameter, the price I've got lined up for them is pretty damned good I think.
A penny for your thoughts? (Thanks). :)

These cost me 1190 with tyres from a bridgstone tyre outlet.

They are 17x7.5.

They look hot on darker colored cars.

Personally I hate the idea of those AU rims on the verada. They're too bulky to go with the rest of the car, and I couldn't help but look at that on the road and think what the hell is wrong with that guy putting Ford rims on a mitsubishi...

The HP rims mentioned by Steve (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showpost.php?p=825799&postcount=14) should be seriously considered, Nemesis has a 18" set of those on his TF and honestly they're the best looking wheels I've ever seen on a 3rd gen, they look unbelievably good when the cars moving too, not just when its stationary, something about how the light reflects off them:cool:

Borrowed these from another thread :P:

Ta for the advice. :)
I must admit that the HP Design rims have been one of my favourites (along with the BBOSS Eleanors).
The problem for me is that it will all come down to price.
I've got a guy selling those ford rims second hand in pretty good condition for $250 including rubber.
