Hey guys, my old man is looking to purchase a newer car, and im trying to get him to let go of the holdens and get him into a mitsu, found a decent car, just wondering what the people of AMC would value the following:
MITSUBISHI, MAGNA ADVANCE TF 1998 Model
Registration: mid this year
Transmition: 4 SP AUTOMATIC
Body: SEDAN
Year: 1998
Engine Size: 3.0
Km's: 168,000kms
Any tips on what is to be expected price wise? as the owner wants offers made and hasnt put up a specific price, what should i look out for before i offer anything and what would be a good price to offer?
Kind Regards
$4000-4500 maybe if its all in good nick. I know people on here seem to think their worth less than that based on red book, but realistically the red book is $500-1k out on nearly all magnas when you compare its values to what people actually pay for them.

look for leaks, then take car out for drive, if you don't hear and feel anything unusual, then inspect interior for wear and paintwork for quality... Lugo is right for price wise if you are going for private but will be a little more if through a dealer.

Oh can I tell you about dodgy dealer pictures. In fact I will, went to have a look at a KF Xi verada about a month ago, in Hoppers Crossing, which is over an hour away from me.
Car looked mint in the photo online, when we get there its not at the dealers, its at the shop getting a little bit of faded paint on the front bar touched up, as the dealer described it.
Another 20 minutes later we're at the shop, and heres the car, faded back to the bare metal in places on the roof, and about 60% of the boot had no paint at all. The camera angles though, made it look bloody fantastic.
Moral of the story, don't believe the photos!

Let me tell you my story, me and my brother were constantly searching online for a magna for him, i ended up finding a green TJ, well priced, great KMS, about 45mins drive to the dealership, pictures looked wonderfull paint was awesome not a scratch and this was a high resolution photo so, you could see it was apparantly well kept.
We got there and the dealer showed us the car it had a huge dent in the back where the boot lid is, the front bumper was sprayed blue, it was rusting on the doors and was a complete wreck, it had the same plates on, thats how i recognised the web of lies, yet he could justify his prices, so i told him off like any good person would, the picture was BS the car didnt look anything like it and this was a registered dealership, complete BS.

When buying a used car, don't believe a word the owner/dealer says on the phone or in the ad, Ive learnt this the hard way...
