Hello,
After a compression test, the culprit for the engine roughness turns out to be a damaged exhaust valve. We've been quoted heaps to get this thing repaired, thousands of $$$ in fact, which is just about as much as having a new engine fitted altogether.
I will certainly be needing help and advice from you guys as to how to go about with it. Maybe you know shops that can do the repair at a reasonable rate? I really appreciate any input.
Thanks

is this for the V6..what model
downloadable manual http://www.lisho.net/?page_id=3
all you need do is take the heads off yourself
see if the valves are bent or have damaged the guides or hit the pistons
if pistons are ok
you can buy heads from a wrecker or just have an engine/head reconditioner.. replace/repair only the bent valves and guides on your own heads
...V6 exhaust valves I got for $10 each
a VRS kit is just over $120 .... whole lot wont be costing you $1000
one member on here got hit for $900 just to do up his heads that didnt need doing
then big $$ labour cost on top

TF SOHC V6 24-valve. I would love to take out the heads myself, but the fact that repair shops charge heaps to do the work, I believe it's a complicated process and, without prior experience in engine repair, I just might make everything even worse.
As for the manuals, yeah I already have that one. If you know anybody who's reliable in taking out the heads and honest enough not ask for so much money, it would be really helpful.
Thanks

just call a mobile mechainic to remove the heads and refit when you get them back
only takes a few hours to remove and replace
then you are more in control over the work what you see when the heads off
and what goes back on
a lot of workshops wont let you near your own car
get a written quote on any work before it starts

How much do you reckon will they charge in taking out the head? The fact that they go to your place, I feel it might cost even more.
Anyhow, can you please give me a list of mobile mechanics here in Melbourne if you know of any?
Thanks
