hey all
before you all say it - i know its bad to run a car - esp EFI cars, dry on fuel coz it can stuff your injectors and the like.
but it wasnt me that did it today, so not my fault, just my ****ing car!

while all this was happening, i was at home - in bed.

*he* was driving it for work - as he blew up his gutless workcar yesturday, and he just needed it to drive up to brisbane and fit something off and then head out to the uni and lodge his assignment.

i was driving it yesturday, and the fuel light came on after i had left the car sitting in the garage on level ground, and stayed on for about 23kms when i turned the car off to pick him up.
started the car, and it was gone, and the fuel guage needle had risen back to 1/4 remanining.
drove home - thinking it was normal for my fuel needle to mess up - i STILL have issues with my fuel sender unit apparently!
checked the trip computer L used function, and it was saying had used approx 51L when i had driven home and left the car for the night.

so in theory - i should have had approx 20L in the tank for him to use in the today for work?
give or take a little - as the TC isnt 100% accurate i know.

anyhow - the car apparently ran out of fuel!
in traffic - splutter splutter DIE
went to get some fuel in a jerry can - with the help of a friendly police officer, put it in and the car started and ran *fine* apparently and he filled the car up with only 65L.
the other 6 *missing* L would prolly have been the jerrycan topup to get the car moving again i would say.

anyhow, now, he phones me and says that the car isnt running right.
i think he said it came close to stalling while driving on the highway.
i didnt get that many details coz i was more stressed about my car and it being in pain!

until i get more info on whats happened, and i see it myself - car should be home soon - well it better be!
i wont know more.

any ideas on what might have happened?
keep in mind, car is approaching 70,oookm - and its 7,oookm OVERDUE for its 60,oookm service.... i know bad but when ya dont have the money to do it - you cant.

stuff only seems to go wrong when he is involved with it somehow.
oh yeah - he would have driven about 60km to brisbane to do the work he had to do, and was planning on filling up as late as possible with the company fuel card (with permission) so we had as much fuel as possible in the tank for the next week.

cheers
< / rant - my car's in PAIN!? >

Running a car out of fuel is bad mkkkay.

May have picked up some crap from the bottom of the tank and there is an injector that is blocked, or the fuel filter is now clogged, or it may have done a catalytic converter.

I'd replace the fuel filter 1st and take it from there.

is the fuel filter 'inline' or in the tank?

i know where they are on an Xseries Falcon... under the rear seat, chassis rails passengers side of the car... and there is a strainer in the tank on the fuel pump as'y for them too

should be inline, on mine it sits near the tank

well you got a few options, go through and clean out everything that could be clogged. filter/lines etc even injectors.

or f*** the consequence and just hammer the car and hope it cleans itself! lol

if it were me, id do the latter

haha
sounds good to me
i might run some higher octane thru it - like a tanks worth, and a bottle of injector cleaner thru the tank as well.
not for the performance - as there wont be any stupid 3rd gen no knock sensor, but to clean the fuel system out somewhat.
cbf pulling **** apart to try n fix it right now! lol

bet this stressed ya out enough to have a cigga lol..

on a serious note.. id be getting it looked at.. i quite often filled up with 65+ litres in my ralliart but i never had it once completely die.. aroun corners it would nearly stall on the very odd occasion but it never got low enough to stop...

took the car for a quick strap around the block and shopping center carpark - had to go out anyhow to pay this fortnights carpayment at the bank.

it didnt feel any different to me personally - altho, it actually felt somewhat *smoother* sitting at the lights in drive.
mine doesnt have the 3rd gen shake and rattle by any means, but it did feel noticably different and smoother.

car felt sluggish to drive, but i think thats coz iv slipped into "nanna mode" to try n save fuel.

dropped a bottle of injector cleaner into the tank too - surely it was due for something like that anyway by now, as i doubt it had ever been done.

when i get it serviced (soon i hope! - considering that it will be due for a 70tho service and i aint done the 60tho service yet!?) il get it checked over.
servicing will hopefully take place in the next couple of weeks.

i would drop the oil myself, but i cant go climbing around under and over and through and the like on cars anymore which really sucks but anyhow.

haha yeah - i did think about using a hammer on him - but i would need a big/strong one to do the job right! LOL
