Hi guys just wondering if my idea will work.
What i want to do is directly connect my ipod to my CD player by making a cable that uses the ipod connector with the pins changed to audio out and and 12v power pin. Then run these into the speaker cables that connect into my cd Player
Any help will be appreciated

iPod charges from a 5v 100ma source (USB) you have to grab yourself an adaptor for that.
What I run is a Cigarette socket -> USB adaptor, and from that I have my cable that has an iPod plug on one end, and the USB and 3.5mm audio jack on the other (available from Wow for like $70 (Kenwood))(exy I know, thankfully I managed to score one for free).
3.5mm has an adaptor to my RCA inputs in the back of my head unit.

what he means is:
the plug that connects in the dock of thr ipod (bottom of ipod) has 20 odd pins in it and there are diagrams out there sayin wat each pin does... so runs wires from the right pins to the car...
12v power pin spliced to cd player power.... video pin- run a av cord from it and leave the plug somewere to connect to screen when he gets 1 (yellow cable)... and as ipods are 2 channel... runs a wire from audio out 1 pin to front right speaker and rear right speaker and the same with audio out 2 pin to the left sides... the ipod will charge when on the dock and audio will play through car speakers and as its an ipod video the movies can be played throught a screen wen he gets one... there are posts on the net of ppl doing this... not a bad idea as it looks totaly custom and doesnt require these big conecters and all wires are hidden under dash.

Like I said... 5v 100ma is the max an ipod can/should take... standard USB device.
I understand what you're saying, however you're going to struggle soldering those tiny bastard pin outs on the DIY ipod plug. Honestly it is worth buying all the adaptors as they too can be hidden under the console, I have done this in two cars and it looks, dare-i-say stock. You also get the peace of mind that you're not going to have a short in your circuit that your $600 iPod is going to **** itself with.

Perhaps consider something like this?

Makes sure you don't melt anything.

I have thought about doing exactly what you wanted. First of all, yea, you would need to find a 5V source to charge the iPod. You could rip apart one of the cheap 12v ipod USB battery chargers and hardwire that (remove case, hardwire to cig lighter 12V source).
Secondly, the ipod connector is hard to find...not many places sell them to the public, esp in small numbers (1 or 2). You'll find that the unused pins from iPod cables are cut off so you can't use them.
As for signal cables, use that pinout, it would be helpful. Soldering wont' be too bad as long as you're not bridging any pins.
You might as well use a headunit that can control iPods. As for watching movies off an ipod, not sure how desirable the resolution would be unless you were watching it on one of those JVC 3" screens.

Why don't you use one of those Belkin in car adapter? It uses the cig lighter to power the Ipod and has a 3.5jack output for the sound. They are like $35-40. If you get one of those jaycar cig access lighter plugs, you can wire in a second cig input out of sight and plug the adapter into it. Then you can hide the 3.5mm jack to head unit wire and mount your ipod somewhere. :D
