Hey There,
Im just tryin to work out if my power steering system is leaking, I bought my TF about 6 months ago and since then I have topped up the fluid 3 times (for a total of 750ml)
Is this normal? Also if it is leaking are there any common spots for it to leak from? wanna try fix it myself if i can.
Thanks,
Kieran

It's definately leaking. If you've used 750ml fluid in 6 months, that's over 100ml each month which is a huge ammount for any car. That's what I'd expect from an old XF <s>battle tank</s> falcon.
Unfortunately; the "where" of it is not something I can assist with.
Mine is leaking a bit, but nowhere near the extent to which yours is.

nah a huge amount is 750ml a day! lol but it could be a split in the hose or a seal perished in the pump it could be the seal i think

Check the pump, ends of the steering rack under the boots and the hoses. With a leak that bad it should be easily visible.

if you cant see it park it on clean concrete/white paper and leave it after taking it for a 15min drive (to get it up to temp) and you might be able to find the leak

could be a worn or split O ring on the steering rack assembly, mine blew altogether a week after getting my steering rack replaced !
Look on the firewall on the drivers side about 3/4 the way down at where the steering arm connects to the rack and see if its damp (power steering fluid is red so use a paper towel to see if the fluid is red)
Other than that it could be a power steering pump, but i dont think they should leak that bad, or one of your hoses has a slight crack. Feel around the hoses from the reservoir to the pump at the back of the engine (when the engine is cold) and see if they are damp also.

Mine is leaking a bit, but nowhere near the extent to which yours is.
Found at least part of my leak using the instructions here.
I found that the house going into the rack just in front of the firewall wasn't correctly connected.
The hose was onto the pipe and the clamp was in the right spot but the hose wasn't quite behind the little lip on the pipe and as such wasn't sealing properly.
Fixed that up with the assistance of some awesome extra-long pliers and hopefully mine will clear up.
There was a *lot* of really messy residue down there so it remains to be seen if perhaps mine has another leak.
How's yours going OP?

Just keep digging just keep digging just keep digging
Just a bit of an update, picked the car up from a service today and asked the mechanic to have a look at the power steering system for leaks. Turns out the leak is coming from the rack itself and the entire assembly needs replacing
He has given me a rough quote of $500 including labour. How is that for a price? Good, bad, resonable?
Also, how hard is this to DIY/find parts?
